Where is the wound? Is the an indoor-only squirrel? How long has she had it? Generally, more info please.

Looks like an abcess. Is it draining? Can you apply pressure and get anything out of it? (I know, yuck. But it needs to be done.) Keep it clean and open, and don't use peroxide. Plain warm water and mild Dawn liquid or antibacterial soap is fine. Is it very swollen?

Sure he is, it probably hurts. You need to keep it draining, though -- don't let the gunk build up inside. He may need antibiotics -- amoxicillin works well with these things.

I need to run and pick up a baby squirrel -- be back ASAP!

Warm wet cottonball on the head of it will soften the scab. That is what you want. The scab needs to come off so it can drain. The warmth will draw it to a head too to help the draining process.

Is that a scab? To me it looks like an inflamed hole.

We'll need to know the weight of the squirrel and the type and strength of the antibiotic to dose. It might be smart to start asking around now, especially if you'd want dosing instructions tonight.

use a qtip and get neosporin down in there. do that every few hours.. that should keep it open and heal from the inside.

You can also float the Neosporin (in the closed tube) in warm water. Since it's oily it get runny and you can stick the tip of the tube as far down in as possible and squeeze. Being more liquid makes it go deeper and into more crevices. If you have Betadine or Chlorhexidine you can use either as a flush to flush as much as possible out of the wound.

I agree flush the wound and do warm compresses to let it drain it should heal nicely if you can keep this little one from grooming that spot if this kid can reach that spot be careful what you put on as something's are harmful when ingested...Hope your baby gets well soon..

Ok thank you for all the advice, now I have to catch him and try to get this done. He is not fond of me touching him in the area, so I hope that he will not bite me to hard and will maybe hold still...

I will let you know the results later today
