I'm just glad that my sister convinced her boss to let her keep them inside until I came and got them. The people that pointed them out were going to "put them out of their misery"

Its pretty easy to get their beaks open
how they doing
I went to go change their paper towels and they both had their eyes open and were squirming!
Cricket saw me and started peeping again.
Grumpy still hasn't made a sound.
I fed them both 1/2cc cat food and baby bird food mix
And gave them 1/4cc of water and sugar mix.
Both of their legs are still sticking out.
I moved them into a larger bowel so that they can have more room for their legs.
I had mom look at them and she said that their crops looked full.
Still not sure what a crop is
Where should I keep them tonight?
Is it ok to take them upstairs to my room?
Or should I not keep them in the same room as Ahrlan?
I don't want to leave them alone downstairs because my cat or dog will get them.
My cat can't get ontop of Ahrlan's cage.
But I don't want Ahrlan to get sick from them.
And my mom said that it was a bad idea to leave the heating pad on all night
But I think that it would be bad to leave them without.
they don't have much of a crop, look at it like a little storage area for food, you can sometimes see it on their right side of the neck.
i would keep them in a high sided bowl that they just fit their bodies in if possible, try to get their legs under them.
tomorrow your going to need to bind their legs together to correct the splay leg, or they will be crippled for life and be unreleasable and life in captivity will be difficult for them.
what i do is use soft cotton sting, i cut 2 lengths
carefully tie each piece on each ankle, not tight to leave room for growth but not too loose to slip off
then tie the other ends together so thier ankles are in the natural/normal position under them with about 1" to a 1 1/2" inbetween.
you will need to leave it on them for about 10 days and remove and check to see if it's corrected, if it's not we made need to use a more drastic measure to hobble them.
i like the string method the best as they can still get around a little once they start hopping around.
i will try to see if i can find a graphic for you.
if they have splay their nest was probably slippery and may be the reason they were rejected
I will need a picture example of that
bring them wherever they are going to be the safest, birds have a different body temp than mammals so a lot of things they could have wouldn't transmit.
just use common sense hygiene especially when handling feces to protect yourself and you arlan.
i do hundreds of wild birds every year, nor i, my family, my pet birds have caught anything, although i think my dog got coccidia from the baby squirrels one year, but she could have picked that up anywhere
they can die without a heat, i leave mine on all the time with baby anything, it's the most important life saver there is
here's one where they used band aids

Will this be enough for them?
I think Grumpy needs more help
He just isn't as perky as Cricket is
When I feed him he will stick his head up and swallow but as soon as he is done swallowing he will lay his head back down.
Would it be better to take them to a rehaber?
Or do you think they will be okay here.
I just want to do what is best for them you know
okay, lol, i'm horrible at ms paint but hopefully you get the gist of it
absolutely be better if they went to a rehabber, do you know of any? make sure they will rehab starlings with splay legs before you give them up
The only rehaber that i know of is about 45 mins away
I tried calling her today when I first got the birds but she didn't answer
i need to sign off for the night, i will check in in the morning hope your babies feel better in the morning
g'nite
did you leave a message? she's probably swamped with babes
call her in the am
her phone never stops ringing.
i literally left it ringing for 15 mins
Should these work?
I just made two of them.
The knots are adjustable.
