    Default Can squirrels eat cheese?

Squirrels are rodents, rats are rodents, rats eat cheese, can squirrels eat cheese? I hope so, because Tessa just stole a slice of cheddar off of a cracker while my back was turned, raced off with it and growls and lunges at me when I try to take it away from her. Will it hurt her?

Cheese is fine for squirrels. In fact, we used to try to get them to eat cheese as a source of calcium and protein (before the days of HHBs).

That is good to hear. Because she DEVOURED it and I am pretty sure I heard her burp when she finished it. Which leads me to my next question: do squirrels burp?

Yes, but they're supposed to say "excuse me" afterward.

Yes, squirrels can eat cheese. Also, They are primarily vegetarians, living on seeds, nuts, fruits, fungi, lichens, buds, mushrooms, roots, pine cones, leaves, twigs and bark. They do not normally eat meat.

I'm always nomming on cheese as a snack, and I've often offered it to my squirrels. Nobody has ever taken it. Maybe they don't like mozzarella or muenster?

Yes they eat cheese and mine love it. It seems their preference (at least my guys) is CoJack (marbled Colby and Jack).

Joey just ate a small piece of cheese toast this morning....it had Colby-Jack cheese on it. . Oh, and he eats chicken everyday. Squirrels are omnivores.

I have found the favorite around here is the CoJack, but when we don't have any they will settle for Marbled Cheddar Jack. They are not happy about it, but they feel kinda like I do...it's cheese!

My Roxi loved to eat fish. Everytime I made it she would pace her cage so I let her sniff it once and that would usually satisfy her that she would'nt like it, but when I got the fish close enough she grabbed some and starting munching. After that I made sure I cooked her some with no seasoning.

Here in UK We have these amazing snacks, mini breadsticks with a smooth cheese dip in a little self container. (I have one for breakfast at work each day) I adore them, when I used to feed the wilds where I used to live the brave little boy who used to come in the house liked to lick the cheese dip out of the container when I had finished, I really have never seen anything so cute but I used to have to hold it because if I didn't he would scamper off into the woods and up the nearest tree with the plastic container in his mouth and I worried about littering the woods with plastic. So I would say yep they love it, doesn't EVERYONE love cheese? Also it is high in calcium - that's my excuse for eating too much of it !

Sammy tries to steal my beta's food!! He will devour it if he gets the chance. Although that's only happened once. He always refuses cheese but I've only offered cheddar and mozzarella.
