    Default Safe Wood for Squirrels

Can you tell me what type of trees are squirrel safe? I want to provide some fresh branches for my Boo to gnaw on.

Also, I know they can have pine cones ... can they have the baby pines cones that are just forming on the pine tree limbs?

    Thanks in advance.

Most woods are fine for them -- but no YEW or CHERRY
Pine cones are ok but the problem is sap. When it gets on their fur it's really a pain to get off, so check that the cones are nice and dry before you give them.

I don't think wood conducts very well,
either. However, I had a tree struck by lightning in my back yard
years ago, and it practically blew apart. I think the moisture in the
tree, turned almost instantaneously to steam, probably is what
exploded. I presume it was high resistance (the wood) meeting high
voltage (the lightning strike) resulting in some electric current and
    a lot of heat.

Oak, maple, fruit trees (except cherry), hickory, walnut, poplar, magnolia, pine, fir, spruce (no juniper), palms (except cycads--deadly poison). These are just a few.

    Baby pine cones are fine.
