Thankfully, not all vitamins synthesized in the lab are from unnatural sources.

This source of B vitamins for pets includes natural sourced bio-identical forms:

When vitamin sources are highly concentrated food extracts they may have a higher level of oxalates which lower the availability of Calcium in the diet to the body and bones. Rat research has already shown that the forms of vitamins matter when it comes to their long term use.

Protein sources are also an issue in the diet, for if not natural sourced and extracted using non toxic means, that don't use toxic chemicals and high heating, the protein will be denatured. In using cold pressing of organic sources not grown without contaminants and heavy metals this can be accomplished without resulting in damage to the proteinss. From the research all isolate forms of protein are unbalanced and denatured. For the use of short term laboratory studies these sources have sufficed, yet not for long term use in rodents without having serious health damaging side effects according to rat research.

Organic whey protein concentrates are the better choice than isolates when the sources is produced with minimal processing from organic grown non GMO sources that have not been fertilized with unhealthy organic chemical sources that contain high levels of heavy metals or organic pesticides.

Of these, there are very few that employ cold pressing to remove some of the fat, not organic chemicals like hexane to extract the protein that they contain even so notably organic grown. Of these there are no field seed grains in concentrates or isolates which quality as a healthy source to include long term in the diets of adult mammals including tree squirrels, save perhaps for organic produced and processed oat protein concentrate that doesn't contain glutens. (see the data on rodent block diets on my GMO thread in the Nutrition forum).

Beyond using these denatured sourced rodent block diets for the purpose of supporting the rehabilitation and release of tree squirrels back to the wild, research has shown that some toxic forms of vitamins don't have long lasting effects if discontinued upon reaching sexual maturity, to use them for the long term has been shown in numerous rat research studies to result in damage to internal organs. This in part due to their higher pesticides and toxic chemicals content as research has confirmed for many rodent block sources including HT Envigo see thread on GMO etc. in Nutritional forum) and processing with toxic chemicals like hexane used to extract protein from GMO and non GMO grains alike.
