Normal Blood Chemistry Values
Hi all...does anyone have normal blood chemistry values for Eastern Grey's, and if so would you be willing to share them with me? My five year old Eddie is still having health issues. The Vet. did a blood work-up but has no "normals" to compare. Comparing to normal rat values, his calcium/phosphorus ratios are in line, but she is concerned about his kidneys. Any help is appreciated :thankyou
Re: Normal Blood Chemistry Values
On the following page there is an image with lab reports for a squirrel and one column gives reference ranges. These ranges are for rodents, however, not squirrels specifically. I've never seen ranges specifically for squirrels.

I have lab values farelli... maybe look in chichi's thread.. I will try to relocate them, but am having PC issues... they are here in my computer somewhere.. and I know I have posted them in the past... for SQUIRRELS. I have hard time opening and sharing some of my files as I am not computer savy...
as I like to say, computers are not JIT friendly:D
I will TRY.
Re: Normal Blood Chemistry Values
Here is a link from an old study that was conducted in Florida. It has the mean values for some chemistries in eastern grey squirrels.

Maybe this will help.

Thanks JIT. I think that should be a sticky. This question comes up fairly regularly and I've never seen that before.

Re: Normal Blood Chemistry Values
I have a question and it's too late for my Andi but may help someone else. When I made Andi's vet appt when she first took ill this last time, I came here and copy/pasted the blood values in an email to my vet with a heads up that I wanted BW done. Years ago we had taken a small amount of blood from her by clipping a nail until it bled tho I can't recall why. So at her appt he said very sadly " I'm sorry Kat but to do complete blood work we would need a good amount of blood for a tube , not just a drop from her nail, and I can't imagine how to get that much blood from her " and I couldn't either :( Just out of curiosity does anyone know how you'de get enough blood to run ?
Kat , forever missing Andi .

Re: Normal Blood Chemistry Values
I was looking through my files and found a pdf that contains not just the few blood values as the Gray Squirrel study, but other values for blood in great detail. This one is more recent than the one done in Florida in the 70's . I hope this info will be of use to the vets that aren't familiar with this data source.

Re: Normal Blood Chemistry Values
I've been unable to even FIND a local vet who will do my lil guy's blood work without sedating him. He's never had bloodwork, and I'd love a baseline, but have heard horror stories about 40% of them dying during sedation. is this true and if so, what is more important....having blood work or not risking sedation? Please advise....thanks!!!!
