Well, Reese S. Peanut still has REALLY bad diarrhea. In the last 2.5 days it's gone from liquid yellow with TONS of bubbles and air in it, to orange, to brown, and now to Mt. Dew Green with a tinge of blood in it! And it's still sheer liquid. I need some advice. I don't think I've ever experienced a time when I've had a bitty on nothing but grape pedialyte (stopped the touch of Vital in the fluids yesterday when the poops didn't resolve) and he was still having seriously bad poops.

His urine is clear now, so he's fully hydrated.

I'm going to give him a feeding with Fox Valley stool stabilizer for his 9:30 feeding and see if that does anything for him.

I need some suggestions, though. Anyone ever dealt with this? I'm at a total loss and I'm afraid to stop the fluids and start esbilac, but I know I'm at the end of the time I should be taking for hydrating without nutrients.....

Poor little Peanut. His tummy HAS to hurt.... :(

Awwwww, poor little guy. Have you tried just going to Esbilac? He looks nice and chunky in the pictures, so I would think it would be fine to go straight to the Esbilac. Maybe that will help him out. I personally wouldn't use the Fox Valley junk, but that is just me :D . Do you have any Deliver? Chris sells it and it works great! I used it last year with Zippy and it cleared her diarrhea right up. Hers wasn't as bad as this guys though, and it was always brown, it didn't change colors. That is really weird. Maybe it is a parasite or something?

Yeah, I know how you feel about FV, SRB2, :) but I've had good luck with it so far. It's so nice to have on hand when I get a bitty that can't tolerate esbilac....

I'm going to give the FV stabilizer a shot, if that doesn't work I'll probably put a touch of jell-o in his fluids for the noontime feeding. I don't have any deliver on hand...I really should though....

Also going to try some vanilla Activia yogurt on him, too....

It is good to keep something else on hand just in case they can't tolerate the Esbilac, that is why I also have Zoologic 33/40. Fox Valley isn't the worst stuff you could feed a baby squirrel, the wildlife center where I volunteer use only that and some of their stuff does live and the majority of the stuff that doesn't isn't because of the milk. It is just I can't stand it. I used only that for 2 years and had major issues with it.

The yogurt is a good idea. There is also that stuff that coats the intestines that might help. It is sulcrafate. I had a note on it in my notes from a conference. I haven't ever used it. It is listed with Panacur. I am not sure if they are the same thing or not? Panacur might be a good idea if it coats the lining of the gut because that would help the little guy feel better and kill any parasites he might have.

CQ I would try to get the Deliver if you can, if this persists. It really is a miracle drug. Otherwise a touch of Immodium or Kaopectate can help too. Poor sweetie!

Some thoughts on other reasons the stool is green:

1. The purple dye in the pedialyte is discoloring the stool. Purple & red colored food items do this frequently in humans.

2. Early sign of starvation, called "starvation stools". In humans a diet of nothing but fluids for more the 48 hours, sometimes only 24 hours can cause green, watery bowel movement. Bile is green, it is changed to brown through a chemical change that occurs in the large intestine. If the food/liquids are traveling though the intestines too fast they don't have time to undergo this process and the stool will be green.

3. Giardia & coccidia can cause green stools progressing to blood in stools. To test for coccidia, collect 5 different stools throughout the day to look at under the microscope at work tomorrow. This was how I found coccidia in Monkey last fall, only 2 of the 5 were positive.
