I saw Hammy scooting his butt on his cage. I know dogs do this if they have worms. Could he have worms? He did have an over night adventure Sunday night when he climbed a tree and took off. I didn't get him back until Monday evening. Could he have picken up fleas, worms, parasites, etc.? I plan to give him a bath in little while once it warms up and I will see if he has any fleas. i do not have a microscope, so i will not be able to tell if he has any parasites. What can I do for him?

Should I still bath him, just in case he does have something. I am trying to limit contact with him because we are going to release him in a couple of weeks. It is so hard though, since his little outing, any time we go out on the patio he jumps on us. He doesn't want us to leave him. I have to put him in his bed and then get inside as fast as I can or he will jump back on me.

check his bottom. does it feel hot to the touch? does it look red or raw? and fur loss? does he try to itch it beyond the scooting?
you could give him a bath just in case- i don't see how that would hurt. if his scooting becomes very frequent, or if he's clearly in growing pain or discomfort from his bottom, then you could take him to the vet. but i'd hate for you to go for no reason.

Sound like Hammy's already made his plans...
And as for his bottom scooting...FROm my personal experience..with having a male Grey...he's doing what comes natural..and yeah..every once in a while..it just may be a turd..stuck on his fanny..and he's wiping it off..lol
But mostly..I think it just feels good..and it's a scent gland thing..MARKING what's mine....:alright.gif

hmm......does hammy jump on other people? have you tried introducing him to any strangers?
i'm asking because you can't release him yet if he's willing to jump on strangers. it's one thing to love you guys, but make sure he knows the difference. :thumbsup

Hammy only jumps on me and my husband, but he prefers me. I am trying to limit contact since weare going to release him. I know it is best for him, even though it will be difficult. I did check his bottom, but I didn't see anything and it didn't feel hot. I was unable to give him a bath tonight, but he will get one in the next couple of days. I just want to make sure he didn't pick anything up on his little adventure.

I was told by the director of our local rehab group that this is their way of marking their territory (as others have said). She's very knowledgeable so I'd go with that explanation.

As long as his bottom looks good, then he's probably just being a squirrel! :crazy

I have posted the most recent pics of him in the nursery under My Little Hammy. I haven't gotten any pics this week, but I will try to add some more this weekend.
