We have flyers in our attic. We would like to move to them to the woods. How far a distance should we take them so they won't return to the house?

Gammas is right - you will first have to find out where they are getting into the attic, and close that up. Even if you got rid of the ones in there, others will take their place if they can still get in. If you could provide some nest boxes outside in a tree for them that would help. And fix them up a feeding station and keep it filled with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, nuts of all kinds, etc. Then you would have them out of your attic, but still be able to enjoy watching them in the evenings. You can fix a porch light or something to shine on the feeder so that you could watch them.
First, locate all their access holes - anything over 1/2". Slowly block off the holes, leaving them one to get out of. Then block off the last hole, preferably at night, when they will all be out of the attic. If they have nest boxes, they should settle right in to them. You might even put a couple of nest boxes in the attic for them. Then, during the day when they are all asleep, cover the hole on the nest box and move them outside and place the box up in a tree. Provide lots of bedding in the nest boxes - plain white unscented toilet tissue, or k.eenex, or small bits of fleece works well.
Good luck with them.
