Injured Paw

Hi I need a little help. Simon my 11 week grey hurt his paw today. I was cleaning his nest box out, so I had it open. (It opens on a hinge at the top) He somehow got it closed on his paw and now his paw is realy swollen. It's about twice the size of the other one. I don't think it's broken but i don't know what to do for it. Any help?

Are you in a Squirrel Friendly State where you can take the squirrel to a vet?

Unfortunately no, I'm in Georgia. It's illegal to have them. I also think they would probably just ask me why in the world I am bothering to rehab him. Most squirrels around here get shot, and some of them even eaten.

lilpaige- i think it'll be ok. i suggest you ice his paw as much as he'll allow you to. apply ice for three minutes strait, wait ten minutes and see if the swelling decreases.

if you can, place him in a smaller cage that will discourage him climbing, jumping, etc.. the swelling is a good sign, because it means his body is working well, but to decrease pain you should definitely ice it.

If the swelling doesn't go down, I have a list of rehabers by county in Georgia. I'm sure they can refer you to a vet.
