Hey guys,
What is a good, calming, safe way to transport a squirrel by car? I have a small cage and was going to line it with tshirts and cover it. Wart is leaving us tomorrow and I'm taking him out to meet the rehabber. :Cry
I don't want him to stress out anymore than he is naturally going to.
thanks

:thumbsup You've got it covered! If you usually have TV or radio on at home turning on the radio in the car may be helpful. If you have Rescue Remedy, put some in his water.
You've done a very good job with Wart and we hope you'll let us know how everything went!
Best wishes for a Happy Squirrel Life, Wart !:Love_Icon :Love_Icon :Love_Icon

Yes, I will most certainly update everyone with how it goes, plus some pictures. Husband-to-be and I went browsing through all of our pictures tonight. (It is a very bitter-sweet night here) I didn't realize he was so small when he dropped into our lives! We're so proud of him. I'm so happy he will get to climb trees and fly through the air. It makes me sad to think tonight is the last night I will get a squirrel-bath from him, but I'm so happy he will get to live without restrictions.
Expect pictures by Friday! (ah, the healing process begins!)

You have every right to be proud. It's a wonderful thing ya'll are doing for Wart. You've done a great job of raising him. Thank you for all you've done to give him a chance at a wonderful wild life. Good luck Wart. We'll be looking forward to pics. I know how bittersweet it is but you are truly doing what's best for Wart and if he could he'd thank you.

What a gift you have given him. Care, warmth, safety and freedom.
I'll be watching for those pictures.

Your family will be in my thoughts tomorrow. I really admire the grace in which you're handling this. It's almost time for my Hunny to go and I'm still trying to come up with reasons to keep her.

To all you people who "raise to release": :bowdown :bowdown :bowdown
Truly the highest form of love is love without attachment--to be able to let go when the time is right. Bless you. :grouphug

Bless your heart! I will be thinking of you & little Wart, Release is not an easy thing. If this rehabber will continue to keep wart a while can you request to be there on his release day?? Release is much harder on us than the squirrel.
It is a wonderful thing to wittness,,a bitter sweet feeling you will never forget.
:Love_Icon :thankyou for being there for him.

I promise you there's no such thing as "without attachment".
I meant "attachment" in the sense of Buddhist philosophy, wherein "attachment" is a bad thing--it is selfishness. Everyone feels such things as selfish attachment, or lust, or anger, or whatever--these are the "lower" human emotions. The key is to rise above those feelings. It in no way assumes that those who are able to rise above, simply do not feel as much. On the contrary, between someone who loves but is able to let go because it is better for the creature they love, and someone who must keep the beloved near them regardless of the consequences because they will "worry" or "miss them" I ask you: Who loves more?
I believe that releasing something you love is truly selfless.
