I am a squirrel lover and have raised a few baby's. just a few minutes ago I found a little boywho looks like he fell out of his nest. ones one he is older then my other babys and seems as though he fell out of his nest.there does not seem to be any injuries i can see, his eyes are open and he is agressive towards me. I have him in a basket with a heater so he stays warm. I can not put in the time to raise him right now and need advice so he can live. how to feed him if he is not eating solids without getting bit.and where if anywhere some one can shelter him. I live in north east fl and the bird sanctuary will take him but i fear they will feed him to the birds there. his eyesare open but he is still very young. anyadvice wouldbe appreciatedits b

een a few years since my other babies abd they were younger.I found him before any cats i think he was stunned. but I am afraid of him since he tried to bite me and need help if at all possible. my home email is cgerg22@hotmail.com and thank s in advance.

I just emailed with the warmth, pedialyte, esbilac regimen.

Also - a 1 cc syringe (NO NEEDLE) is ideal for feeding. Keep his head above his body and don't let him aspirate any fluid into his lungs. You are not squirting the Pedialyte or Esbilac into his mouth - just enough pressure on the plunger to keep the liquid at the tip for easy sucking :-)

I hope you and baby are doing well -- is he now warm and taking Pedialyte? You are right -- he will still need lots of time and care for at least a couple of months. Have you been able to locate a rehabber close enough to you for help? Do you need help with contacts?

TSB members -- help is needed in northeast Florida. I'm not sure if we have any rehabbers up there, but perhaps one of the closer members would know someone? We do have several members in "north Florida" -- but I know that covers a lot of territory ......

Hello,
We have a member who lives in Jacksonville. I emailed and PM'd her with your request for help. I don't want to mention names as she may prefer to keep her location private. I'm in FL also, about 2 1/2 hrs. south of you. I was hoping we could find someone closer. Keep us posted!

we've got tons of people located in florida. we'll find SOMEONE to take him, for sure.

until we do, just keep him warm, hydrate with warm pedialyte, and if he gets hungry, give powdered esbilac puppy formula, one part formula to four parts water (this dilution at first so that he gets used to it). make sure it's VERY warm, almost hot.

sorry if you already know any of this, but we don't take chances on the board.

have you checked his fur and skin and orifices thoroughly for parasites? does he have any fleas, maggot eggs?

i have had babies act aggressive, but this one should NOT bite. the earliest i've had a baby bite was around ten weeks old.

thank you so much for caring for this little guy. please stick with us, we'll try to help. ;)

Here is a link with Florida rehabbers on it. Just type FL in the State line and hit enter. There are three pages of Florida rehabbers, hopefully one of them will be close and willing to take the baby.

SUCCESS - I have the Wildlife Rescue Coalition of Jacksonville ready to take this lil fuzzer in - two solutions now :-)

The WRC sounds like a super group - I will get more info and pass it around the board - I was soooooooooo impressed with their heart, skill, experience.

I've emailed the info already.

I don't know either. But when I called her today she said they told her just to drop them off at a specific's vet office. I'm on my way to go get them and then if the Wildlife center still wants them, I'll be glad to hand them over. I am very capable and have raised & released many babies. But whatever's best for the fuzzers is what's important. Not sure why they are giving confusing messages.

At least you know they'll be safe and taken care of and properly released when old enough. I have my hands full over here, so if they still want them, have them let me know. But one can never have enough fuzzers :D

I just wanted to expand on philomycus post - the Wildlife Rescue Coalition made it convenient for the injured fuzzer to be directly dropped off to THEIR VET - a specialist in squirrels. It was not a drop it off at any vet - the vet who is on the Coalition's board has an office very close to squirelbait222's home - it was more convenient and got quicker care.

I got the 2 little boys home tonight. The injured one looks like a bite wound. I flushed w/ saline and the betadine and gave antibitoics. The injured one ate almost 2 ccs, the healthier one didn't eat much, but he's healthy, frisky and full of energy. I think they just opened their eyes this week. Rocky is very jealous! I have the babies in a different room so there won't be as much jealousy in the future.

Sorry the wildlife group didn't work out for whatever reason, but rest assured they will have the best care possible.

I'm so glad I remembered you lived in Jax, philomycus. I didn't want to mention your name in my earlier post because some people aren't comfortable disclosing their whereabouts on the internet. I'm so glad it all worked out. Are the babies brothers?

philomycus
10-10-2007, 08:29 AM
yes, the little ones are actually brothers! The "injured" one is full of life today compared to yesterday. He actually eats more right now than the healthier one. And he's almost as energetic as the healthy one

I haven't decided on names yet, but by today I'll decide on names so you guys won't get confused on them....and hopefully I'll have time tonight to post pics.

Thx Ms Oakley !!!
