This is sad. I drove 2 hours today to take a look at a young grey squirrel that is sick at person who thinks they are a animal lover. Anyway this person had about 30 cats loaded in fleas. Mangy dogs running around. I can see that the young squirrel was not properly care for and this is why it is sick. This lady has no money to care for the baby. I talked her out of the little baby. She is about 5 weeks. But anyway this what is sad. This person has 4 flying squirrel. They are in a tiny cage. It is a plasic hamster cage. It is very dirty. I could barely see throw the plastic. I asked her if they were for sale and she said no. I took the baby home. It really botheres me to see these Flyers like this. So called her back and offered her 200.00 for them. And she said no. She finally agreed with $550.00 . So I am trying to come up with it. I am suppost to me her this weekend. So I am going to have new additions to my family. In the future i may have a couple flyers for adoption as soon as make sure their health is good and have them examined. It will be a few weeks. I Love Flyers. I would have given 1000.00 for them..

oh good! :D

it's a sad, sad thing, but those critters deserve better. this sounds like one of those classic cases of an old person with WAAAAAAAY too many pets, but they're unwilling to give any away!

please let us know how it goes. ;)

:bowdown :bowdown :bowdown That's a wonderful thing you are doing!! :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Locally, there was an elderly woman found with 75 cats in a townhouse last year. They were removed; sad, horrible, ugly story. This week the paper reported that she was either convicted or pled guilty to the charges (cruelty to animals, I guess -- didn't read the fine points :D ). No, she isn't going to jail (in her 80s I think) but is on 3 yrs probation -- and not permitted to have any pets in her house. Sadly, she never really recognized that there were any problems ......

So once the squirrels are removed, by all means, report it to the authorities so the cats and dogs can be rescued too.

You've done a great thing in getting the flyers away from her. Let me know if you need any help with them - I've 'rescued' more than one in my lifetime! If I still had the money I've paid to get flyers out of bad circumstances, I'd be living in high cotton!

Definately report her to the humane society, otherwise she'll have more dogs, cats and flyers before you can even get back home!

Yes, Humane Society ASAP. Look at it this way, they will take those poor animals and hopefully find a better home for them - one where they have room to move. The many number of cats alone is an issue. It could become a health hazard if one of them died without her knowing. The dogs themselves have the potential to become more feral and destroy other animals belonging to other people in her area (like a pack).

This kind of behavior is cruel and selfish. Unfortunately, because you inadvertatly became involed, you have a responsibility to do what is best for both of them - whether she likes it or not.

I'm humbled by your dedicate to these animals, you did a great deed buying those animals from her. May good fortune be yours in return for your kindness in this act.

Thank God for people like you who are willing to spend money to save lives. I can point around my barn at a few of my very expensive "rescues" as well. Plenty of stuff that wasn't "worth" the price I paid but needed to be out of it's current situation all of whom are now calling my barn home. <grins> Sometimes I doubt my sanity, but in the end I'm always glad I did it.

About the woman, I know it's easy to get mad at her, but consider that this is a sickness and most of the people effected aren't even truly aware of how sick they are. It's hoarding and it's the same disorder as people who uncontrollably collect newspapers or other material items. It's a genuine mental illness and like most mental illness the people effected are usually the last ones to know they are very very sick. What we can see plainly they really truly don't see.

I've known a few hoarders in my time and they really aren't "evil". They don't intend to take poor care of what they have, they just get overwhelmed. Understand I'm not defending animal neglect, and I agree the humane society SHOULD be called, I'm just trying to explain how this happens. When dealing with these folks it's easy to get angry and want to be nasty, but really they need some level of compassion because they hurt deep down, something is very wrong with them that allows this situation to occur.

I work very hard not to let our numbers get out of control. It's not easy. People are throwing animals at me daily. My "nurturing instinct" has to be supressed. My neighbor just GAVE me free and clear... Yes I said GAVE me... her two horses recently. A pali paint large pony and a mini, both regiseterd, both lovely and the paint mare is broke to death for riding. I didn't "need" another two equines, believe me. I wish this was an isolated case, but I get offered horses CONSTANTLY! I have to say "NO" to the ones I can't see having any use for. I only agreed to these two because the paint mare is great for the kids and my hubby to ride and the mini mare will either work in the business or be highly resaleable once I get her feet back in good shape. I also said yes because I was partly responsible for her getting these two animals to begin with AND they were both owned previously by a good friend of mine. Several years ago I almost bought the paint mare for my daughter, but she showed little interest so I let the mare go.

Dogs... OMGOSH ... not a day goes by I don't get offered a dog. I just got offered three more potbellied pigs. I have one, I only want one, I said no.

Unfortunately for every hoarder out there, there are more than a million willing enablers to supply them. I've actually seen people GIVE animals to people they know for a fact are hoarders and can't really afford to take another living creature.

I hope you get the flyers out of there and I hope the humane society can come get the others out of there. I pray this woman can be helped because obviously she has a huge hole in her soul she is filling with these other lives and she just isn't capable of caring for their needs. It's sad all the way around.

I have got the little angels. They are very scared, but they are adorable.
I am not angry with this woman, She is old and thinks she is doing these animal a favor.
I remember growing up. My parents had no money, but always took in every animal. They never when to the vet, and they had alot of fleas. I was a child and didnt know any difference, and I love all of them very much. I realize this is how she feels too. I am very happy I got the little flyers. I realize I can not save them all. I will make a report to the human society, but they may or may not help. I did apply some advantage to the worst cases their in hopes to relieve some discomfort. And shown her how to dose it out. She said she will get more with the money I gave her to give to the rest of them. And I educated her on some places that may help with spaying her pets. She just has no money to do anything.
I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Bye- BYE for now:grouphug

You did a great thing, Nova. You helped a person as well as a lot of animals. A lot of people would have just walked away from such a depressing and difficult situation. :bowdown :bowdown :bowdown
