Hello all, so I was all over the place over the summer posting here and trying to figure out if Nugget has a dental condition, or whats going on with him, taking xrays and realizing in that process that he had terrible spondylosis and arthritis according to his xrays, his exotics vet prescribed him strong pain killers and we made a plan to euthanize him when he had no quality of life. He was also having trouble eating, diarrhea from antibiotics, and his skin was just horrendous no matter what I gave him. He just had no tolerance for injections, constant oral meds and baths/ointments, it was all too much for him. I backed off, I had to, he was just miserable. I gave him pain meds morning and evening, as the vet said, and hoped to keep him comfortable.
After a while, I realized being zonked on powerful pain meds was no life for him either, I started weaning him off those too, and supplementing him with formula, nut butter and a wonderful quality CBD oil we have here for pets. He has since gained weight, his skin has healed up, and he is totally off pain meds unless necessary (teeth trims). His energy came back, and his silly sweet personality, doing all his funny things and having a great time! I have been so grateful and happy to have him back, after thinking I was going to lose him all summer. He has been wonderful.
So recently , I guess the past week or so, he has seemed a little "twitchy" I guess, I am not sure if his vision is changed, jumpy a little, he has that half-eye closed, sort of painful look, so hard to tell or describe with squirrels........he has been more quiet and staying in his nesty, still eating (it looks like) but has an aversion to his formula, after LOVING it for months. I guess its possible he could have a dental calcification or even something more going on in his skull. I know this sounds vague, but I can't ignore that something is up.
I guess I am just sharing, and also if anyone has anything to share, Nugget will be 10 years old this spring, and I am grateful to have had him in my life for so long, he is a precious little angel. I hope he is not on the brink of having seizures, but I don't know. I just want him to continue to be happy and pain free. Thanks for reading!
