I have a 14-15 week old Fl grey squirrel that has aspiration pneumonia. I was told to buy baytril but I am out of town and only have cephalexin. Will cephalexin work? I panicked and gave him what I could only eyeball to be 15-20 mg. Can he overdose on antibiotic? He should be around 190 grams but I won’t be able to get a scale till tomorrow. I was told 10-15 in a steamy bathroom might help but he was coughing a little bit and breathing from his mouth sometimes and idk if that’s helping or hurting. He barely wants to move and only wants to be held.

If you can supply us with a reasonably accurate weight and the size in milligrams of a WHOLE pill of the cephalexin, we can give you correct dosing. Scraping a pill and hoping for the best is NOT the answer. Once we get that info, all you will need is to have a 1ml syringe to use to measure the amount of dilution and then then each dose. Cephalexin isn't the best for this but it does work.

He weighs 386.5 grams and I have 500 mg capsules, which have powder inside of them.
