Could you please help me? I rescued a baby squirrel 5 weeks ago. I believe from pics I've researched that he was about 5-6 weeks old. He/she was in severe shock when my son brought him to me. I wrapped him/her in a cotton diaper and put him on a heating pad and covered to darken. In about 45 minutes he was up on his feet. I feed him by a dropper, then bottle feed, graduated him to soft foods and now he is eating vegies, fruits and nuts. He hides some of his foods and playing with his little stuffed animals. He licks his salf wheel and chews on cuttle bone. His foot that was hurt is doing great, he uses it fine climbing and jumping around the cage. He is very demanding for attention though. He wants me constantly at his cage. He gets to the corner nearest my position and goes up and down reaching out like for me to come. When I come over near he wants just to grab my finger and hold on to it. (Spoiled) My question comes now, He has begun to have a bald spot on his tail. It is about two inches from the tip and extends about 3 inches of baldness, then it's back to furry. I thought at first it was where he was grabbing it and playing with it. He does do that. On his back grabbing his tail with mouth and kicking back legs. I figured this was normal play. But with his toys now, I don't see him doing this as often, yet the hairless spot seems to be getting longer. Can you offer any advise on why this is happening or what I can do about it? He doesn't scratch or anything like he is itching. Thank you so much for your attention to this question in advance.
Sincerely,

Hi!:wave123 :Welcome

There are several possible reasons for this to happen. It could simply be bordem, where he's nibbling his tail or some kind of skin infection, or something completely different. Sometimes when their health isn't up to scratch (pardon the pun!), the tail will show signs of this.
Can you let us have a pic of his tail..it might make it easier to diagnose the problem?

It sounds like he could have been nibbling it out of bordem ....until you gave him his toy to play with!
Can't quite see properly on the pics, but is there any dry scaley skin there?
