My little guy's skin is peeling a little on his hind legs, belly, and tail. His skin is pink, not red or blotchy. It doesn't seem to itch or bother him. I don't see any bugs either. Hammy is 3 to 4 weeks old. I have read a lot of great advise on how to take care of him, but have not ran across anything for peeling skin.:thinking

Hi and :Welcome to TSB!

Can you send a pic, so we can see the affected area of skin? It would help us to diagnose the problem!

Thanks!
Jules. :Love_Icon

Is the skin crusty at all? Does the fur come with the skin when it comes off? I am thinking possible mange. Mange mites can not be seen by the naked eye.

another possibility, is he getting urin on himself? maybe urin burn?

How about any detergents, fabric softeners allergies?

His skin is not crusted and his fur is not falling out. Hammy has started going on his own after I feed him, but I still have to stimulate him to go more and he gets wiped off with a damp cotton ball before I put him in his box. I did see a wet spot on his bedding when I took him out for his morning feeding. I tried to take some pics of the area, but I could not get them to come out clear. However, I do have two pics to share of him, one from last week and one from this morning.

From the pics, I can't really see any skin peeling, but he doe's look very pink with skin tightish looking:thinking

What do you wash his blankets in? Is it unscented?

Just thinking if he may have a reaction to any chemicals in the bedding!

Hammy'sMom, does he sleep on anything cardboard, or in a cardboard box? I found with my pinkies this past season that if they were in cardboard and on heat, it got too dry for them and their skin peeled. Once i transferred them to a plastic container, their skin stopped peeling. I know your little guy is older, but it's possible that his sleeping area is too dry.

THANKS for all the advice! :thankyou I will change his bed and buy some unscented laundry soap to wash his bedding. Can I use Eucerin lotion, it is unscented and hypoallergenic?
