Hi,
This is my first time posting. I’ve been very paranoid about posting as I live in Georgia
and it is illegal to keep squirrels. I do squirrel rehab “under the table” with help from a certified rehabber. However, one of my NR squirrels may possibly have an odontoma. One of his incisors has just “disappeared “ and he has had watery eyes off and on and
sounds “weezy/squeaky” and congested. My friend that has been a certified rehabber for more than 20 years helped me take a look inside his mouth. Other than the missing incisor we noticed a “nub” of some sort poking out from the inside jaw line inside his mouth. It looks like a small tooth.
All of his symptoms point to an odontoma. I know he needs an xray to confirm but I don’t know of any vets that (other than one which I won’t go back to)in GA that will work with a squirrel. Does anyone here know of a vet in my state that’s safe?

Further info:
My squirrel’s name is Rocky and he is about 4 years old. He is a gray squirrel that had malocclusion as a baby but it eventually corrected itself. He eats fine and in fact he is a bit chunky.

Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

If you are willing to travel a little, UF at Gainesville reportedly will see a pet squirrel if they are assured that you live within 200 miles of their clinic. Florida, in general, is much more hospitable to squirrels.

Thanks Jamie but I am much further than 200 miles from Gainesville.

I have good news! My regular vet in GA has agreed to do an X-ray on my squirrel Rocky so that it can be determined if he is dealing with an odontoma or something else. Of course if it is an odontoma I’ll have to find a different vet for that but at least I have a local vet willing to help me get the ball rolling. Fingers crossed that he actually DOES NOT have an odontoma.
I’ll keep everyone updated. However, if anyone has a list or knows of any squirrel friendly vets in GA please let me know.
