We had to evacuate from hurricane helene. I had to get a travel cage in a hurry and all I could find was a rabbit cage. On returning home, I set my babies inside and had to tend to my elderly mom and aunt and get the generator set up and running. When I came back inside I noticed my girl had gotten her finger stuck between the bars where the sides come together. I got it out and her finger was intact. I left them alone for awhile to settle down after all the stress. Next time I let her out I noticed that half the finger was gone and ia piece of bone sticking out the end.. I have a rehabber friend tell me itll be fine and the skin will grow over it because she had one who lost a finger and that's what hers did. Well the skin is healed now but the bone is still sticking out. I'm kind of worried about a bone infection etc. Any advice on what to do from here? Thanks!

That looks remarkably painful. There is a terrific squirrel vet, Dr Alicia Emerson, at Ravenwood Veterinary Clinic in Port Orange. She will know exactly what needs to be done (if anything) and exactly how to do it. ravenwoodvet.net.
Let us know how it goes? Others on the board might also have expert advice for you.

Yes I know Dr. Emerson. A friend of mine is very close to her. She texted Dr. E but she hasn't answered her yet. Vacation maybe? Anyway she's healed and not really in pain but she does favor it a bit. I talked to a couple rehabbers last night that said it looks great and that piece of bone or nail, whichever it is will dry up and fall off or she'll chew it off. Thank you for yourreply!
