Hello! I am taking care of a squirrel (about 3 weeks) found after hurricane Milton 2 days ago

He could have potentially had aspirated a little of formula. As I understand that AP is not necessarily gonna develop, I would like to know the dosages of the antibiotics just in case. And also, should I preventatively start the antibiotics? I have amoxicillin+ clavulanate (human pharmacy). In you guys opinion, what could be the best? It is a lovely soul. I want him to heal and thrive.

Thank you very much

I would hold off on using the antibiotics as a preventive because as you pointed out, a lot of times they are just fine. The actual first thing you will see with a baby that has aspirated and is beginning to develop A/P is looking and acting like they don't feel well - suddenly the appetite drops off, they are lethargic, and clearly are not feeling well. If I had a baby that I knew had aspirated, who suddenly didn't want to eat I would THEN drop everything and begin treatment.

If you can give us the weight of your baby and the strength of the amox/clav, we can provide you with directions to properly prepare a diluted mixture and the correct dose of what you have made based on his weight. That way you can start as soon as you see problems and not wait for someone here to help you.
