Help! We resued a baby squirrel in May. She is now about 5 months. She now lives outside and stays in our neighborhood. She loves our family (even the dogs) but is now attacking other people who come over. We relocated her to a forest preserve not to far away and she quickly returned and continued her attacks:thinking :. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

For the time being it might be a good idea to try to catch her and see if you can get help from a rehabber. If she bites the wrong person, the authorities will come get her and euthanize her. This happened to someone I know. He was really torn up over it. He did manage to get the man that got bit to drop charges against the squirrel, and it was turned over to a state rehabber.
Best of luck,
Sparky

There does not seem to be any rehabbers close by. Do you think if I relocate her far enough away that might be successful. She has bitten many people. I guess we are lucky no one has come after us.
It's the wrong time of year to be relocating a squirrel or any critter for that matter. Baby will find themselves in a strange territory with no food stored and not shelter and may have to fight for the right to stay there. Do you have a large outdoor release cage? We can instruct you on how to winter and then re-release/ relocate in the spring. Or - where in Ill are you? Perhaps we can help you locate a rehabber near you.

It would be hard for her to survive such a release I think, and she would still have no fear of humans. Is she friendly with you? She has probably bonded with you, and now considers other humans as rivals for her territory.
It would be in your squirrels best interests if you could get her to someone that knows how to deal with her. It could be that she has become unreleaseable, but a good rehabber would be the one to judge this. Try to locate a rehabber, and just talk to them. If they live far away, they might be willing to meet you half way.
Best of luck,
Sparky

Thank you so much! She is very friendly with us. She lies on her back and wants her belly scratched. She comes in our house and rules the roost. She is friendly with anyjone who was around as she was a baby. I am sure you are right. This is her territory and she is going to defend it, with unlimited nuts and all. It is however a very sad situation. We love her and she loves us. I am looking for the nearest rehabber right away.
Thanks again.

She has been used to the outdoors for some time now. She is very fond of us and her neighborhood. She is defending her territory presently. She just bit a window washer. I would love any help you could give me in finding a rehabber. We live in the northern suburbs of Chicago.
Thanks!

i believe our user hazel is around that area. however i can't be sure....PM her about it, or maybe she'll hop on soon.
SOMEONE was telling me they lived near there.....ahhh racking brains, i'll be back if i can pinpoint it.
or it could be hazel. :crazy :thinking :crazy
that's definitely not a good situation. she needs to be somewhere far away from people. i would catch her if i were you.....before things get out of hand!
You can try here. Even if they are not colose they should know who is.
