I have never rescued a squirrel, but my daughter and I found a partially paralyzed squirrel in the road and I have no idea what to do. his back legs are paralyzed but he looks alert, warm and lively. He’s hiding in a dog kennel right now I put in some wet cat food and water but he probably won’t try to eat right away anyway.

Bless you for bringing him in. Unfortunately, hind end paralysis can go one of three ways:
Most often, the spine is fractured and the squirrel will pass away in 72 hrs as its organs break down.
Less often, a course of Prednisone and physical therapy can restore movement in the back legs. This will require a vet's help. Most rarely, if there is only nerve damage, the squirrel will fully recover. Are you able to find a rehabber near you who can access a vet?

PS: cat food is mostly protein but squirrels are vegetarians. Try some fruit, like apple or pear.
