I rescued a baby in June, its eyes
still closed when it was given to me by workers here. She has always been good, feisty and sweet at night. But lately she has been very
aggressive so I tried a soft release, she has access to her habitat as
well as outside, she has stayed close to house but has gotten more aggressive, has chased me and ran up my leg and bitten me. She
continues to charge me when I am outside. Should I try and trap and
relocate? I am so worried she won't survive but more worries she will
attack family when here. She came in her enclosure last night to sleep in her box and is still there this morning. Please advise. tysm

How old is she now?

How long was she in the release cage before opening the portal so she could come and go?

How long ago was the portal opened so she could come and go?

Are you still providing food in the release cage?

Where is the release cage located (wooded area? Surburbia? City? Other) and how far from the house?

Is this a fox or grey squirrel; are there other squirrels around the area?

Sorry for all the questions but a better understanding will help (at least me!) about how things came to be what they are today.

Her eyes were still closed when I got her early June and opened within a week so am guessing 4 to 5 months. And I actually don't know if male or female, does hump toys if that is any indication. The release cage is a converted catio that is attached to house, she has been in a month and I just gave out access yesterday. I closed access last night after she went to bed until I get better guidance, when she sees me she chatter warns, yes I put food in there.

So I believe this is a California ground squirrel and I do not know a lot about those... hopefully members with more knowledge than me on this particular squirrel would chime in.

With tree squirrel my first thought would be the release cage needs to be away from the house and preferable by trees. In the case of a ground squirrel my *instinct* says away from the house and by correct habitat. For me, when I release chipmunks, the release cage is away from the house and in an area with lots of rocky terrain (even boulders), lots of vegetation, etc.

Again, my gut tells me if they are up by the house and have to cross an open area to get into cover and whereever these squirrels are comfy, that open space might scare the considerably.
