I was taking my 8.5 week squirrel out of his cage standing up. He got scared and flung himself out of my hands. He is hurt and looks like he landed and hit his nose/face.

Is there anything I can do???

Will he be alright?

Did he land on a hard or soft surface? How far did he fall from?

Can you check inside his mouth and nose for any blood?

When you put him on the floor, does he walk straight or wobble? Does his head twitch? Does he react or notice if you put your hand in front of him and gesture a bit?

He fell to a hard floor from about 5ft. No bright red blood but there was some subdued light red on my glove when i was checking him over.

He is doing this little sneezes like in the video every once in awhile. They have mostly slopped now. But he just curled up to sleep and flipped over like he normally does.

Is he still sneezing now or fully asleep? It’s good that there’s no twitching or head movements.
He isn’t wheezing or clicking right? No abnormal breathing noises?

The sneezes might’ve been that when he fell, a little vessel got popped and a little blood was in his nose that he wanted to sneeze out. Also to just shake off the impact he felt.

It’s good that no blood pooled under or hardened by his nose, I assume.

Continue to monitor him in the morning for any changes and if his appetite is the same in the morning.

Hoping someone else will chime in with a second opinion as well.

Thank you for your help in being able to assess Simon. No blood or even light red anywhere in his cage this morning. I went to him this early this morning and just listened to his breathing. He was fully asleep and no abnormal breathing. I woke him up at his normal feeding time. He heard me and he walked straight to me, no wobbling or falling over. Appetite was normal. I looked over his nose and mouth no signs of lacerations or open wounds anywhere. His mouth and teeth look normal as well.

He is still making some extra sneezes and rubbing his nose with his hands. So, I will continue to monitor.

If there is anything else you can think of that I should look out for let me know, but so far things are looking good. Thank you again.

Everything has seemed normal since the fall, but this morning he was eating his block and I noticed red on the block. I have never seen an HHB with red. When eating he munches on my white glove there was a bit of red residue. But then I gave him a wet paper towel to munch on (he likes to munch on one while I clean him with another) and there was no red. After his fall, everything is concerning, and I am worried it might be blood. There is no blood around his face and I looked as best I could in his mouth and I don't see anything abnormal.

Maybe I am being overly cautious. He is 8.5 almost 9 weeks, could this be teething? Something red in the block?
