View Full Version : I have a new squirrel
I rescued a baby gray world two weeks ago, and my guess is he's around eight weeks old now. He seems to be thriving and growing, but recently he appeared to have a scab on what I assumed was his testicle, but i've been reading that they don't have testicles at this age. The scab, it's gone, and there's a a tiny little hole that's like an open wound. He definitely seemed to be biting at it a lot for a couple days. So maybe he just created the whole, but I don't know what else to do. And he's dragging his back end around like it's irritating him. It's it a tumor? What do I do?

:Welcome thank you for rescuing 👏
What formula are you giving him?
Is it possible to put up a picture so we can get a better idea?
So I just went to take a picture and there was definitely pus coming out of it. I've cleaned it and squeezed as much out as I can. So I don't know, I guess it's like a cyst?

It could be an abscess... an infection with a puss pocket. Draining those is always good, and since there was a scab maybe there was a wound that got infected and is just now bursting opening.
The puss was white, or yellowish? I am asking to rule out an intestinal fistula in which case the drainage would have been fecal matter.
The other possibility that comes to mind is a bot fly warble. In that case "puss" would have been more clear and you might even see the warble (maggot) inside as this would be a breathing hole... those don't typically scab over, but he may have been biting at it enough to cause a scab to develop... this is less likely, but possible.
