Hi everybody, thank you for letting me join your group. I have a five-year-old nonreplaceable male squirrel with compromise back leg mobility. He in the past has had a mild ear infection in one ear, which I have stayed on top of had to go away for four days, it appears that he has a double ear infection and has, a head tilt as of two days ago. I have general ear cleaner and tresaderm Which I have started him on twice a day one drop. I also saw in this group that you can use baby ibuprofen so I was wondering a dose on the liquid part about a pound and a half. He seems in good spirits doesn’t seem painful, but his appetite is definitely off because of his head tilt I believe so I’ve been force feeding him a little bit. Any advice on how to treat or medicine I should be using would be greatly appreciated. We have limited resources In my state and very few rehabbers and we don’t actually have too many vets that work with squirrels. Thank you. I forgot to mention that I do have access to a veterinarian who someone knows about squirrels and is willing to give me medication. The discharge in his ears is thick and goopy and green.

:Welcome
My Charley Chuckles had ear issues his whole life he also had no use of his back legs I can't imagine that's somehow connected but interesting.
My wonderful vet Dr Emerson had me use tresaderm, I Just had to keep his ears cleaned daily , I used Q-tips but never went deep in the canal, he literally had green goop and that was the original reason I joined this board.
The only time the goopy ears cleared up was when he was on an antibiotic for other reasons.
Finally Dr Emerson told me he's injust going to have this his whole life ( we really don't know what caused it) but he didn't pass away from it and lived 8.5 years.

Sorry I don't have a better answer but I'm sure others will 👍

Hello Cminakin,

I'm a little confused by your post........so your squirrel is 5 yr old male, 1.5 lb, and you would like dose for baby (infant) ibuprofen ?? In order to dose correctly, accurate weight of squirrel is needed (preferable in grams). For Ibuprofen, please confirm its infants (baby) type at 50mg/1.25ml strength. There is children ibuprofen at a lower strength. Tresaderm is antibiotic complex for treating ear infection. Glad you have access to Vet so you can get additional meds and/or advice.

Hello there, thanks for the information. I definitely would weigh him before administering any medication that was just a guess on his weight. Thank you for the dosage. It would definitely be infant ibuprofen and I was thinking of possibly trying for any inflammation that’s causing the head tilt.

Sorry for any confusion, I have not provided any dosing information. Dosing info will be by PM instead of open board. Once you get weight and want dosing, just post your request here.

Sorry for the misunderstanding I should’ve taken more time to look at this. He seems to be better today. I will take a look at the children’s ibuprofen when I go to the store today thank you for your information.

If you have not bought Ibuprofen yet, get INFANTS (50mg/1.25ml) in berry flavor. Its 2X more concentrated than childrens type so you dose 1/2 as much.

You will need 1 ml syringe too. Ask Pharmacy to get one.
