My neighbor found a baby squirrel (2 weeks old, at the time) under her palm tree. According to her, it had been laying there for THREE days before I swooped her up. I started the rehabilitation process then and there.

I am not sure how much info everyone needs to help me, but in short she was 43 grams. I started her on Pedialite, with no flavor, for several days before introducing Esbilac puppy formula. She is now 8 weeks and a very heathy 286 grams! Exclusively using formula from the Henrys website. She will not eat squirrel block and has no interest in veggies. All has been well for the most part, other than her eye, pickiness and she is soooo itchy! This has pretty much been the case since I got her. But now I am noticing bumps on ears, back, and well, most of her body as well as dry skin. Also, just under her arms, she has no fur and it looks crusty and red. Could this be mange? Mites? I dont see any bugs. I did wash her with dawn and put raw coconut oil on her to hopefully provide some relief.
Some other facts that may or may not help: She has a foggy right eye. She seems to be able to see but I can not know for sure. It was like that the day she opened her eyes :(
Can anyone please advise? I really feel terrible that she may be uncomfortable. Thank you so much for all that stopped to take the time to read this!327259

Thank you for rescuing her👍
I'm no expert on squirrel pox and I hope that's not the case.
I'm bumping your thread for others to chime in.

Can you take some close pics of the irritated areas? It looks like she has some under the arms.

How do her ears look? Ot is hard to see in the pic. Is there any rough skin there?

Her ears have bumps as well! I took the best close ups I could. You can see by her foggy eye there is small hair missing and little bumps on her ears. 327262

I think she may have mange mites. You cannot see them without a microscope, BTW. But the tips of the ears is one of the first places it seems to really show up, likely because of the reduced amount of hair. The scaly look on the skin is also indicative of mange.

The very best choice is Revolution, which is a "spot on" treatment applied to the skin on the back of the neck. It kills a bunch of things, including the mange mites, and kills both eggs and adults. It is available only with a prescription in the US...but you can get it from Canada: https://www.canadavetexpress.com/flea-and-tick-control-treatment/revolution-for-cats/p56.aspx

You would want the first one on the page - "Revolution for Kittens/Puppies (pink)."

I have bought from this company before with no issues.

Your second choice is to use Ivermectin. You will need to either go someplace like Tractor Supply or a place that sells stuff for horses. It is 1.87% Ivermectin in either cream or gel, pre-loaded in a horse dosing syringe. It looks like this: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/durvet-ivermectin-paste-187-608-g They have several types that have other types of wormer in it, make sure you are getting JUST ivermectin. It is flavored - usually apple - which helps.

Ivermectin will be a 3 dose regimen that will take place over 3 weeks or so. When you decide which direction to go, let us know so we can help you with dosing.

This is wonderful advice thank you so much. The link you sent for Canada seems to be unavailable at the moment but the feed store down the street from my home has ivermectin. I will go get that right now. Any help with dosing would be super appreciated. Also, since I’m on my way, I know they have food for rodents. Is there any thing I could purchase for her that May be enticing? She’s not liking the Henry squirrel block and seems to be very picky with vegetables. Thank you again so much.

The Henrys are by far the best and tastiest - the feed store stuff will pale by comparison. She is still pretty young - I wouldn't expect her to be chowing down on solids. How many weeks? Wild baby squirrels don't leave the nest until they are about 9 weeks old - and that is their FIRST opportunity to eat anything but mom's milk.

When you can, please give me a weight on her.

Just weighed her she is 340 grams. Whoa! I’ve had her for 6 weeks, today. When I found her I assumed she was 2 1/2 weeks old.
