Hi TSB
I am rehabbed in Quebec. I received this baby who appears to have fallen out of the nest.
It was found in a park a good distance from the nest. From the nearest nest.
Before being contacted he spent at least 3 hours outside with the lady. And we don't know how long he had been walking around with his eyes closed on the ground.
He has fleas so the mother won't come back, He had blood on his nose And blocked nostrils.
Once the nostrils were unblocked, the secretions appeared. Then he started making this noise.
I managed to give him barely 2 ml of pedialyte, 1 drop at a time in 2 hours. He can't swallow.
My first question is:
Does he have an infection, pneumonia, a specific problem?
It seems to me that this is not the sound of aspiration pneumonia!
What can you suggest to me?
Maybe the odds of him making it through the night aren't in his favor!.
I made a video montage to demonstrate its being.

Please help me help him
Take note that am a french speaking person . Good English but i asked google to tranlate my text.

Hello Love-Lee,
Good to see you back on TSB after the winter months. Hope all is well up there.
What a precious baby! Walking around with eyes closed must be scary. So glad somebody protecting the baby while on the ground. Now the little one is safe with you.
You think there no way to reunite with Momma ?? I don't think fleas are a major factor where momma won't take the baby.
In you video at 3:19, it sure does sound like clicking. Might this be A/P and antibiotics are needed. I hope another TSB member with more baby experience than me will join to comment.

Hi,
Yes everything fine up here. I think you have finish with the winter.
Thank you for your reply. I didn'i know that a mother can take back a baby with fleas. But anyway, in that case he's not in good health for trying.
I though about antibiotic. I have clavaseptin here but don't know how to prepare it. its a pill. And am wondering how or if he gone a be able to swollow it. cuz since then and now, He can not swallow the pedialyte.
So i'll wait and cross finger that he will make it until morning.
for someone who can help me with that.
am happy that you recongnize me. I feel, now, that am in the TSB family:blowkiss

Amoxicillin with Clavulanic Acid
Common name: Amoxi-Clav, Clavamox, Clavaseptin, Augmentin, Aventiclav, Clavulin, Noroclav, generics.
Drug type: Antibiotic. Used for: Bacterial infections
By tomorrow morning (already 1 am there), other TSB members will see this posting for you.
For dosing this AB, need squirrel weight and AB strength (its 2 numbers for XX mg/YY mg).
To administer - you crush 1 pill, add water, and use 1ml syringe. Directions and dose amount will be sent by PM.
Before dosing AB, there might be some more questions tomorrow morning. Please check back early. A/P with clicking is critical condition and needs addressing quickly.
Good night, SSG

Hi,
Thank you very much.
is weight is 106 grammes
and here a picture of the ab. I took a picture to make sure i not saying to give the right information.
that way no wasting time and better chance he will get, I can't not do wrong, is Life MATTER.
I keep is nostrel clear. And the noise is low now, Not loud as in my video. But clearly he needs AB.
in a meantime, I try again pédialyte a bit. Drop by drop, very very very slowly. He took half of 1 ml seringue,.
So total, since he got here (6:00 pm) he had not even 3ml of pedialyte. He still alive. And he look like someone who wants to live for sure.

It could be aspiration pneumonia, but given the condition of his poor little nose, I think his sinuses are swollen and have drying blood in them which will make that same clicking sound (though it will be coming from the nose and not the chest).
Squirrels are "obligate nose breathers" which means that it is quite difficult for them to breathe through their mouths. It is not like it is for us - nose gets stuffed up and we breathe through our mouths. It isn't optimal but as a lifelong allergy sufferer, I can tell you that it CAN be done! So if he is swollen and stuffed from old blood, plus in some PAIN from the wound, I can see where eating isn't happening.
So first, I would get some Infant Ibuprofen into him. I checked - it is sold up there. They often offer "no sugar, dye free" for more money - don't get that. You want the good tasting cheap stuff - it is usually flavored cherry or grape or "berry" and they LIKE the taste.
While at the pharmacy, I would pick up one of the infant bulb irrigators or as I call them, "snot suckers." You need to be very careful with them because that nose is so small. Test it on yourself - like against the inside of your lip or somewhere sensitive, to see how much suction you want to use. They can work wonders sucking the snot and blood from the nose and clearing it out so they can breathe.
If you relieve the pain with the infant ibuprofen and remove some of the nose gunk with the snot sucker he may just perk up and want to eat. The ibuprofen will also help to relieve the inflammation from the nose which will help the swelling go down.
I will send you dosing for both the infant ibupropen AND the Clavaseptin by PM.
