So we rescued a pregnant gray squirrel from an attic not realizing she was at the time. Eventually she had babies in a cage we set up for her while we made sure she was OK from being caught in live trap looked like she got hit in the face by door. Anyways she's been a great mom but today got caught in a pinch point by her claws/paw. We got her down and back with her babies, just want to know if she will be OK dad says her paw is broken I think it's just the claws are messed up and very painful but looking for advice

A trip to the drug store will help a lot.

Pick up three things: A bottle of Betadyne 10% povidone iodine in the wound care section (or the store brand if they have it - same thing but less $$); a bottle of INFANT strength ibuprophen liquid - make sure you get the infant and the ibuprophen. You will need a 1cc syringe w/o needle - if you do not have one, then go to the pharmacy and tell a little fib - tell them you are trying to hand raise a baby guinea pig that was rejected by it's mom and you need a 1cc to feed with until your order comes in and you can't use a larger one. They will normally just give you one.

Dilute the betadyne - 1/2 teaspoon betadyne to 1/3 cup water. You can dribble it right on the injured paw - it's an excellent antibacterial and antifungal and while it looks weird - like blood! - it works great and doesn't sting or burn. Just dibble some on the sore part and let it dry on it's own. I would do it once a day if possible. If you warm it to body temp they barely notice it.

The infant ibuprophen is extremely effective on pain with these guys. I doubt you have her weight so I will make a guess and send you a dose for that by private message. It tastes like cherry or grape and they usually will take it readily. Relieving pain will help a lot. For humans, at least, ibuprophen doesn't appear to transfer to breastmilk, so I am pretty sure this would be fine. We safely use it directly for babies, too.
