Good morning everyone,
I posted a little while ago about my baby needing surgery for odontomas. After saving, planning, taking time off we are headed to Florida on Thursday.
As you can imagine I'm an emotional wreck this week. Any post operative care tips are greatly appreciated and welcomed.
We are staying at the hotel recommended to us by the vet. The reviews are horrendous. I also read many suggestions here for the same hotel since they allow the squirrels. Many anyone give me insight into their stay there? I would sleep in a tent in the woods to help my sweet tree angel, just looking to be prepared
Thank you all so much. While I have a lot of family and friend support, no one will ever understand the way you guys do

Are you staying at the LaQuinta? I know folks that have stayed there…and I’ve visited……it’s your basic LaQuinta hotel. Nothing fancy…nothing horrible. It’s right on exit 256 in Port Orange.
I live an hour and 15 mins south of Port Orange. I have offered for folks to stay with me in the past when they’ve brought squirrels to Dr. E. Some have and some haven’t, mainly because they prefer the convenience of being closer to the office. It’s an easy drive from my house straight up I95. My husband and I have an extra room and you’re welcome to stay here if you’d like. Send me a private message and we can talk.

Are you staying at the laquinta on Dunlawton in Port Orange? It's always been a good hotel and squirrel friendly however it's best just cover cage bringing in. It's only a few miles to Ravenwood, I'm guessing Dr Emerson will be doing the surgery? If it's the norm the port comes out next day or so but they will let you know especially since your traveling.
I'll be in Daytona that day wish I could meet you but I'm having cateract surgery the same day.
I forgot is it an upper odatoma?
Prayers to you and your baby 🙏 you both will do fine ❤️

Yes that's the one. Thanks so much for the offer. This community never ceases to amaze me with the kindness and care shown to one another. Since it is our 1st time we would like to be close in case of emergency. 🩷

Yes Dr. Emerson will do the procedure. And he has 2 upper odontomas so this is the 1st of 2 visits for us. So after this visit we will be more prepared for the next for sure. I would loved to have met! But good luck with your surgery and I will most certainly be praying for you as well. Thank you so much! The prayer means everything

Hey yall!
We just got back to the room and settled. Elliott did well. The left odontoma was the biggest so they took that one. We will return in 6 weeks for the right one.
I have all the scary and intimidating post op instructions so please continue to pray us through this recovery.
As I sit here with my little best friend I am fighting back the many tears that have come and gone over the last year preparing for these surgeries. Someone who wanted to remain anonymous donated to Elliotts bill. We were floored! I don't share him on social media besides with a few close friends and here of course. I love Thumbelina and Momo etc but I'm super shy and could never be public. So I'm certain it had to be from the squirrel board.
I said all that to say this....I respect this person's wishes to remain anonymous. But in hopes that they see this I want to say thank you. Thank you will never be enough. A thousand thank yous will never be enough. I would say that no one knows what Elliott means to me but you guys are the ONLY people that will ever truly understand that love. I WILL pay this kindness forward in some way. It will not stop here. I hope to be half the blessing to someone else as this person is to me.
And the kindness didn't stop there. The advise, offers to open your homes to us, the prayers/thoughts/well wishes, and just a listening and understanding ear have meant the world to me. Thank you all so very much.
I'll see if I can figure out how to upload some pics
All my love,
Kayla and Elliott

I am so thankful and relieved that Elliot’s surgery went well. :hug I’m sure he’ll be back to himself soon. I’ve never had a squirrel go through that surgery but there are many on this board who have. Any questions or concerns you have will be answered, I’m sure. They want us to return Monday to have it out. Dr. Emerson must have been super busy cause i didnt even get to meet her. I kinda wanted to cause shes kinda like a celebrity lol. He's drinking lots of water and baby food (I mixed it with some Henry's vitamins). I'll try to break up his blocks and mix that in next. He's still so very groggy which worries me a little.
Charley Chuckles
01-13-2024, 08:25 AM
It's pretty common not to see Dr Emerson she has gotten so busy.
Does he like yogurt that would be good just by itself or mixed in the block. Avocado, mushed up pears. There is a Publix grocery store close by you I believe.
Groggy isn't unusual with the pain meds and the surgery itself just like if we have an invasive procedure. If he doesn't perk up by early afternoon might call the office just to make sure they can ask Dr E 👍
Sending prayers and keep us posted 🙏❤️

Yesterday was scary for me. He slept all day with little to no movement. So I called Dr. Emerson office. The tech said that sometimes they can be more sensitive to the pain med. So she had me skip last nights dose of that. I did and he moved a little more last night. Still not a lot.
If my husband tried to hold him he would move back to my lap and fall back asleep. He had a slight nosebleed through the night. Got him all cleaned up and he ate a little avacado and I gave his meds (minus the strong pain med) He got in our hotel window and us sleeping again but alerts to voice ,background noise, and touch now.
They told me I'd have to clean his port but honestly there's been nothing there. I've even shown a light in there and all I see is the inside of his little sinus. So I hope that's ok and the lack of mucus production is ok.
I've also sat in the bathroom with him with the shower on but I think I'm gonna buy one of those portable humidifiers.
Please keep the prayers and well wishes coming. I'm a nervous wreck. And sorry for any typos, all this is on my phone.

Can you get a close up of his nose, port? Just keep the drops in that area 2x a day and it should be fine. The port actually heals fast that's why they will take it out Monday.
The heavy pain meds BUP ( spelling?) Is a knock out I didn't give it only had it on hand if I should notice bad pain, the Metacam is great and it's also a steroid so helps with swelling as well as pain. That I gave in the morning but some give at night to help them sleep better.
I know this is all so scary but he's doing great 👍
Also do you have bene-bac? If not yogert will work as a pro biotic. The antibiotics may make him have a tummy ache the probiotic will help HOWEVER only give the probiotic 2 hours before the antibiotics or 2 hours after so the antibiotics have a chance to work.
Kalee
01-14-2024, 11:18 AM
Here are some photos. I don't have the bene-bac but will get some and I can for sure get yogurt if I can get him to eat it. As of right now poops are normal. And I gotcha on the timing of admin. I'm a dental assistant and we tell people to do the same when we have to give antibiotics.

You could always take yogurt and syringe it to him possibly. Could be mixed in with avocado but if he doesn't like yogurt you don't want to turn him off of avocados. Baby foods are a good idea right now all kinds vegetables and they have mixed ones with veggie/ fruit mix so they more readily take it.
I laughed when you said something about typos, see my signature 😂🙃

Lol. My phone is the worst for that! I tried to get a pic of his nose but that's not happening lol. It's clean though. And thanks I'll try that with the syringe/yogurt. I am doing baby foods through the syringe and mixed with measured henrys vitamins too. He doesn't want a lot of it at all but I'll take all I can get at this point

You guys are enormously brave, and Elliott knows that. He also knows that regardless of the situation he is currently in, you two are rocks for him and he can safely rest ever so quietly as he heals and recovers. He is one lucky squirrel, and you two are lucky - and amazing - squirrel parents. We're all with you, all the way.

So we go back to Dr. Emerson today to get the stent removed and hopefully get cleared to come home. Well I should say Nicole (according to them she will be seeing him today and has worked closely with Dr. E for many years)
I had a bad scare last night and this morning. Elliott had a very small piece if blood in his port (not even blocking anything so I should have left it alone). I was attempting to remove with tweezers because that's what they told me to use. He jerked from me and then blood started coming out if his nose. Not a lot but still enough to scare me to death. All that stopped fairly quickly. And of course it was sunday so i couldnt really call anyone. The rest of the night he was up moving around so much better. When we got up this morning the port was very clogged. We removed 90% of it but I'm so nervous that I messed something up last night.
My heart is absolutely broken. I'll update once we get an update from them

You did as instructed and Elliot was not feeling agreeable. That clot was holding back blood. It can't be in the port. You did the right thing. I seriously doubt any harm has come of it. Sounds as if Elliot is recovering nicely. Nicole will tend to all and send you all home if appropriate. Otherwise it's another night at Chez Squirrel. Hang in, you're doing fine.

Great news Kayla! :dance I’m glad Elliot is on his way to being fully recovered and you can take a big breath and sigh with relief. I know how stressful all this is when your baby is not feeling well. The surgery is a big deal and he’s been through a lot but squirrels are amazing at recovery. He’ll be back to his normal self in no time. :Love_Icon Good job!

Thank you all so much. It has definitely been stressful. He's moving a little more today and I can tell he's happy to be home. I wish I could get him to eat some healthier options. I've been trying to add the Henry's vitamins but it still worries me. Hes always been a very picky eater so the Henrys blocks have always been a staple. Its scary when he wont eat them. The last thing we need is MBD.
He still has a runny nose and is sneezing a lot. The fluid is clear/tinge of light pink occasionally. Breathing seems fine otherwise. 💙
CritterMom
01-16-2024, 11:22 AM
He may be not eating them because it hurts to bite down on things right now.
You can try chopping one of them up very, very fine and mix it with just enough yogurt or even a little dab of peanut butter so that you can get the crumbs to hold together. Mash the mixture into little balls and offer that. If the yogurt or peanut butter is a no go, you can try some baby food to use as the "glue."
Kalee

Yea I figured that was the case so I've crushed and mixed them with baby food as well as avacado. He's not taking it so I mixed avacado and his vitamins. He will take very small portions at a time.

Is he drinking water? For just a short time you could offer a little homey in water, syringe it sometimes that increases their appetite plus gives some hydration and at least something in his tummy.
I remember the slight discharge your talking about unless it gets worse it's normal.

He's drinking water well. Still sneezing a good bit and sleeping a lot. I can get him to eat just very small amounts at a time. I really do appreciate all the advise and support. I hope I'm not driving you guys crazy, this is all just so scary. Especially with Dr. Emerson being so far away.
They didn't give me a lot of info on what to watch for. When I asked they just said make sure he's breathing ok. So I'm trying not to let my anxiety get the best of me. I know that once we get through this procedure and recovery the next one will be easier since I'll know what to expect.
Charley Chuckles
01-16-2024, 06:26 PM
You absolutely are not driving us crazy ( however just speaking of myself it would be a short drive 🤣 )
I'm glad he's drinking, eating somewhat 👏
He's on meds and has been through quite an invasive procedure so sleeping/ not eating as much is to be expected. I did cheat a little when my Conker had the surgery, I snuck him a little melted icecream SHHHHHH I never said that 🤫🤭 I didn't care when I had my wisdom teeth out my mom gave me icecream 🍦😁
I've been though this surgery twice with my boy and have helped many others ....post op instructions are pretty much....
Give the antibiotics as directed....
Give metacam as directed.....
Use nose/ port hole drops till it's closed ( I kept using them till the drops just ran off the fur as the Port closes fairly quick....
Rest would be to keep doing what your doing, you got this 👍

Have you been told about making boo balls? This may be a way to provide nutrition in a softer form. There’s recipes in the Squirrel Nutrition section. I use Envigo Harlan Teklad block for mine. If Elliot doesnt like them at first you can try changing the baby foods that are added and see if there’s one he prefers.

I'm sorry, I missed your reply somehow. I haven't tried the boo balls exactly but I have crushed his henrys blocks in about every form of baby food you can think of that he's allowed to have. The only way I can get him to take them is in avacado. And even that is in small amounts. Better than before but still small amounts. I've gotten the bene-bac but it was difficult to convert that huge syringe into the dose he needs. So I'm sure I may not be giving enough of that. He refuses yogurt.

UPDATE:
Elliott seems to have a good day followed by a not so good day. He's eating a little more but only if I crush his blocks up in avacado. And only in small amounts at a time.
His breathing sounded great until yesterday. Now there's a very stuffy sound when he breaths. I am still cleaning his nose regularly so it's not that. The noise is there even when it's all clean. I don't seem to hear it as much when he's sleeping. There's no gagging like they told me to look for but the stuffy sound is so worrisome. The only think I can think of is that we finished the anti-inflammatory meds Friday so maybe there's some inflammation in the nasal passage now?
It's also turned extremely cold here in SC so I'm sure that doesn't help. I'm going to the store after church to get a handheld nebulizer to see if he'll let me use that.
He still sleeps a lot. He slept most of the day yesterday. I woke him this morning to give meds (which he hates and I feel like he hates seeing me coming now which breaks my heart) and he stayed up exploring for about an hour before I had to get a shower.
I really wish there were more instructions for after care. Just like what is normal and what's for this period in recovery. I'm constantly a nervous wreck.
Again, sorry for all the typos. The board is TINY on my phone and my phone is notorious for changing my Os to Is

I’m sorry that Elliot’s still having “off” days. As long as he’s on medicines I think his appetite will be impacted. I wish I was closer I’d bring you some boo balls to try. They probably are worth trying since he’s going to need soft foods from now on. They must not taste too terrible since my wilds will eat them!
Will Elliot take formula? You could give that a try. Another item that we’ve found some squirrels like is pecan flavored Ensure…..as well as Nutella or almond butter. As for the Benebac….i don’t think it’s possible to give too much probiotic.
Funny thing…when I had my released girl inside for treatment which required meds to be given I gave her a treat of a small piece of graham cracker after her medicine……in an effort to keep her from hating me. Now that she’s back out in the trees I call her down for her “cookie” at the end of the day. She knows exactly what that is!

Tomahawk flyers just posted his recipe for homemade blocks. Here’s the link: https://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?31909-Flying-squirrel-diet&p=1365565#post1365565
You could try them in addition to boo balls and see what Elliot thinks.
Mel1959
01-21-2024, 09:03 AM
My boo ball recipe which requires no baking and does not require precise measurements is:
2 cups rodent block like Harlan Teklad 2014 or 2018 ground to a powder (Ninja blender or similar)
1/2 to 1 cup ground nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans)
Baby food
Avocado or melted coconut oil
Powdered FV 20/50, if you have it
Grind the block and nuts and add to a large bowl. Mix with hands to break up the nut clumps. Add FV, if using, and mix. Add a variety of veggie/fruit baby foods or applesauce and oil (s) till the mixture holds together but isn’t sticky. The oils are what helps you achieve this. Once that consistency is reached then just roll into small 1/2” balls and store in the refrigerator in a covered container.
You can experiment with the baby foods flavors until you find one that’s agreeable. Adding some fruit ones with banana helps it be a little sweeter. There’s a baby food variety that is apple, kale and avocado that I like to use. The recipe can be doubled, tripled, quadrupled, etc.
There’s no way to mess this recipe up. Add your liquid ingredients a little at a time so it isn’t too sticky. If it is too sticky, grind a few blocks and add it to make it less sticky.

Hi Kalee:
Thank you for your love and care Elliott! As far as typos; when compared to me, your are The Texter of the Year!
In regard to your concerns about Elliott's apparent nasal congestion; most likely there is some residual swelling to some degree from the procedure and while Elliott was given an "anti-inflammatory" medication (probably an NSAID like meloxicam; and these medications also helps decrease pain), they don't usually eliminate swelling, they decrease it somewhat. If you feel that you need more anti-inflammatory medication or that Elliott may benefit from a longer period of taking an anti-inflammatory medication, please discuss this with Dr. E before doing so. While these medications are relatively safe, they do have risks and the risks vs potential benefits should be discussed with Dr. E!
Cold can definitely affect the condition of the nasal passages as one of the functions of the nose is to warm and humidify the air that eventually enters the breathing passages and then the lungs. You mentioned that it is now quite cold where you are living. Most of us in this situation let the temperature inside our homes become somewhat lower than we would really like it to be! Elliott may be reacting to this with some increased nasal "bogginess" in order to help humidify and warm the now somewhat colder air going to his lungs. Also, colder air holds less moisture than warm air. I am not suggesting that you "break the bank" and turn up the heat for two reasons, one of course is economy but the other is that the increased heat from the furnace, while warmer, does not normally become further humidified and Elliott will likely be in kind of the same situation. My suggestion is to first discuss this with Dr. E if at all possible but I would also suggest trying a warm mist vaporizer (keep this out of direct reach to Elliott and the discharged water from the vaporizer is very hot! The advantages of a a warm mist vaporizer are that it will help do what Elliott's nose may be trying to do and that is warm and humidify his air and with these factors being made optimal before the air gets to Elliott's nose; his own nasal mucosa may start to shrink down a bit. Please use pure water and keep the vaporizer bowl and mechanism impeccably clean!
I really feel that Elliott's nasal edema (swelling), if this is really what is going on is relatively mild! This is based upon the fact that Squirrels and other rodents are what is termed Obligate Nose Breathers (as are infant human beings) and they do not easily go from breathing through their noses to breathing through their mouths (mouth breathing by a Squirrel is always an abnormal sign!) and in light of all that; Elliott's nose breathing is not particularly noisy, he is not in any respiratory distress, and he is not breathing through his mouth. BUT, just as with human infants, if there is any restriction in the nasal passages whatsoever, there will be some "noise" resulting from this. I really believe that Elliott is doing OK! At night, while Elliott is sleeping, both the rate of breathing and the flow of air into and out of his nasal passages are decreased from that when he is awake and active and it for these reasons I believe you are not hearing the noise when he is sacked out!
You are certainly being very attentive and that is great but I want to assure you that you are really are doing a splendid job of caring for Elliott and it really sounds as if Elliott is doing quite well also! Please do try to call Dr. E's office for their recommendations and reassurances and I hope some peaceful rest can come your way very soon!
Regards,
SamtheSquirrel

I will definitely try your recipe. Will henrys blocks work or do I need the Teklad? And is that free feed or a certain quantity needed to meet nutritional needs?

Thank You so much. You guys put me so much at ease. I mentioned trying the hand held humidifier because I saw thumbelinas mama using it. I'm assuming since it comes with a nose mask it's not hot. Do you guys think this would be ok? I would definitely check with Dr. E before giving any additional meds for sure.
Happy squirrel appreciation day yall 🥰🐿💕

H Kalee:
I have not used any of the handheld vaporizers for animals because of the logistics of effectively utilizing them in that particular setting. I have used both warm mist (basically steam) and cool mist humidifiers/vaporizers. There are potential advantages of each and some concerns for each as well.
Cool mist vaporizers as suggested by their name, do not warm the air so if humidification is the only issue, these are fine for that. One of the particular concerns for that type vaporizer but is really a concern of any of the humidifiers is that all parts of the machine should be thoroughly cleaned daily and disinfected with appropriate cleaners also on a regular basis. Definitive instructions accompany all of the units! I would also recommend using demineralized water. Cool mist vaporizers can potentially help decrease edematous (swollen) nasal passages in part by the "coolness" of the air and will of course also help with humidification of the air.
A warm mist or steam humidifier/vaporizer may be a better choice for Elliott as it will help humidify AND also warm the air that he is breathing. Along with that on the advantage side of the choice between warm and cool types is that the "traditional" warm, steam type vaporizer is usually less costly than the cool mist variety.
I use a warm mist vaporizer with new arrival cold Squirrels (especially babies as they are incapable of regulating and maintaining their body temperature) as part of the rewarming process (which must occur before any attempts are made to orally rehydrate or feed them) because while external warming is important and usually gets the job done, being able to provide additional humidified, warm air for the Squirrel to breath helps in warming from the inside or at best, helps prevent further loss of heat and body water through breathing.
If you were planning to utilize a vaporizer/humidifier, my suggestion would be to opt for a basic steam type vaporizer and do NOT utilize any "medication" with it such as Vicks or whatever because this is not the time to risk an allergic response or a sensitivity reaction to what may be an irritant to Elliott. Again, please check with Dr. E.

Did you get a hand held nebulizer? The type that is used for asthma? I have used this type nebulizer with my dwarf Joey when he had congestion under Dr. E’s recommendation. I was instructed to use medication that she prescribed for him. I have also used the nebulizer without medication and with saline when I had babies that had upper respiratory infections. The warm steam should help loosen any phlegm. You should check with Dr. E or Nicole in the morning and verify that it’s ok, considering Elliot’s surgery. She might have you get some type of over the counter product to use on him.

Thanks Mel! That may be what Kalee is talking about. I didn't think about a nebulizer. These are usually used to facilitate administration of medications such as albuterol which is a bronchodilator on a short term basis. I was really suggesting something that can be utilized for a much longer period minimal supervision or direct involvement.
Again, for Kalee, please contact Dr. E's office in the morning!

I've used a nebulizer with saline/ a drop of Albuterol to rescue a few squirrels and on ones that had breathing issues. I did clear this with Dr Emerson first however 👍

Hey guys! Thanks for the responses. Sorry I'm late to reply. I got a handheld nebulizer as well as the warm steam vaporizer. It was never my intention to put any meds in it. Not that I wouldn't if Dr. E told me I could. Just something to add moisture to the air that he's breathing to help with the stuffiness and try to ease any nasal irritation.
But, as it usually happens, I got all those things and we rounded a corner before I had to use them 😂. That's fine though, I'll take it!
He has has less crusties on his nose, nasal breathing sounds are much less, he's up getting into everything again. Oh and I was able to get him to eat a whole squirrel block last night without the addition of any other foods. I do have to break them up into bite size pieces but they're soft enough to do that. That was a huge relief as I know they're so important for needed nutrition.
She trimmed his lower teeth almost to the gumline. Which I totally understand. The one on the left is growing like crazy, the one on the right barely at all. They did tell me that he does have odontomas on the lowers as well but that they don't remove those. Do any of yall have any experience with that with your babies? I just hope they aren't painful for him and that they won't cause long term issues etc. It worried me a little but I put it off to focus on the immediate issue.

That’s great news! Having the nebulizer on hand is just peace of mind. Mine is tucked away in a closet until I need it. I’m glad Elliot is feeling better. They are remarkable healers. :dance

I'm so happy Elliot is recovering nicely 🙏❤️
My Conker had all 4 odatomas upper and lower, the upper left was removed I never had the rest done but his bottom incisors stopped growing. He lived to be 13 and he was healthy ate everything even chicken, eggs and always playful 👍
Actually they do remove the bottom odatomas, at least they use to but it's a much harder surgery.

Hi squirrel friends!
We are back in Florida waiting to take Elliott in for his 2nd (and hopefully last) surgery today. Please keep my sweet boy in your thoughts and prayers again.
I feel a little more prepared and at ease this time. And I owe that all to this board and you all!
And I'm so sorry Jamie, i just saw your reply to the post today. I have social media but this is the only message board and its a little harder for me to navigate. I was just on here a few days ago and somehow missed it then too *♀️
Elliott did well. It took longer than I thought it would to completely return to normal. And I was very anxious throughout. But I'm feeling more confident this time. But no less concerned. You all know how that is.

Procedure is over and all went well. We are back at the hotel and resting now. He seems a little more alert this time. Still very sleepy, but definitely more alert than last time.
Last time they trimmed his lower incisors to the gumline. Both lowers have odontomas but they did not recommend treatment. One grew super fast and the other grew little to none. They trimmed it today but said I may have to trim the fast growing one myself. That makes me nervous. We do have a vet back home though that will see him. He's an hour away from me but well worth the drive. He will trim if I don't feel comfortable.
I know i say it often but it never seems enough....thanks so much for the advice, thoughts, prayers, and listening ears. I'll keep yall posted on recovery

Kaylee! I figured you were off doing "stuff" while waiting for Elliott to recover before his second surgery. It is all good. I had business with Dr. Emerson about a month ago. While I was there, I dropped off a little gift for Elliott and Mary said she'd be sure to get it to you when you next came in. I surely hope she remembered!
It is great to hear that Elliott (and you guys!) have made it through these challenges. A long and happy life to Elliott and to you. Don't be a stranger!

Yes, we've had quite a busy few months but I wanted to get in a few weeks ago. Unfortunately Dr. Emerson was away for a couple weeks on a much deserved vacation. So we are a little later than the recommended 6 weeks.
OMG Really?? No one mentioned anything yesterday. That's so kind of you . I hope they remember Monday for our post op. Definitely my fault though since we had to wait longer than expected. Probably slipped their minds. have no words for the blessing I've found here within this community.
He's doing well today. Still seems more alert this time. He's sneezing a little more but doesn't seem as uncomfortable as last time. I hope that's the case.

Good morning everyone!
We had a somewhat tough night last night. The pain meds seemed to give all the energy and we had a hard time keeping Elliott from being rowdy lol. Last time his port stayed pretty clean with the exception of 1 day. And I'm sure yall remember me freaking out thinking I hurt him trying to clean it.
Well last night his port clogged and his nose was clogged too. Lots of bloody boogies. We got it cleaned up but I was a nervous wreck trying. I'm hoping that's normal and not a result of him being too active last night.
Other than that he's doing well. Getting lots of morning sun in the window of our room :)

Kalee,
As you well know, as unappealing as the cleanup job is, it a step on the way to health and comfort for Elliott. You guys are champs for getting it done. When Elliott is healed, I hope you'll take a moment to look back to where you started this adventure and compare it to where you are. Take in the joy of having helped a creature overcome a difficult hand and avoid a hard, hard life. Wrap your arms around each other and congratulate yourselves for being the wonderful souls that you are. Then pull Elliott into that embrace and revel in the result of what you have done for him and for yourselves. Each of you deserves it.

Good afternoon everyone!
Just a quick update on Elliott. We arrived home about 8:30 pm. He did well through the night. I got up every couple of hours to check him and clean his nose.
He's eating small amounts of avacado and various organic baby foods. Just like last time, this makes me nervous but I know this will take time.
I've been giving Benebac to help his tummy from all the antibiotics. Surprisingly enough he loves that lol.
I've been cleaning his room and his nests to eliminate any possible bacteria. I've recovered several of my socks I've been looking for

Hey everyone!
Just wanted to give an update since it's been a couple of days. It's been a very busy week. My husband and I both had to go back to work. It's been so hard leaving Elliott. I worry so much. But my husband came home at lunch to check one day and I came home at lunch yesterday to check on him.
We've had lots of runny/crusty noses to clean, he hates the meds and the admin of them which is so sad. I can only get.him to eat sweet potato right now and I know that's not great but at least it's something. I've been mashing them and mixing in Henrys calcium supplement. As of right now he's even refusing avacado which is unusual. But we also gave him a lot the 1st couple of days after surgery so hes probably sick of it. I crumbled up a squirrel block and tried that. He picked at it but didn't eat a lot. I'm going to try the boo ball recipe you guys gave me last time
So overall doing well. He does sleep a lot but was out and more active yesterday so I'm thankful for that.
I hope you all and your babies are doing great as well.
And as always, I'm thankful for you guys

Glad Elliot’s doing well. There’s lots of different boo ball recipes out there. I don’t bake mine. My recipe contains ground Harlan Teklad block, ground nuts, FV and Ultraboost powder held together with baby food and coconut or avocado oil. Tomahawk flyers recipe is baked. You might have to play around with recipes and tweak them to find something Elliot likes.

Hey guys! I hope you're all having a great weekend.
Elliott is doing alright. The recovery for these surgeries has seemed so long both times. He's breathing very well. Still gets crusties around his nose that I'm cleaning regularly. Eating is still slow no matter what I try. He has been sneezing still with a lot of clearer mucus. I'm gonna call Dr. Emerson's office tomorrow and see if I can send a pic but wanted yalls input as well. I was wondering if any of your babies had the same thing. I'll post the pics I took. They were taken right after sneezes.
The mucus seems clearer in color now. With very minimal to no blood. I just don't remember it this thick last time. His right eye still a little weepy but not quite as bad.
Thanks everyone. I know it's spring and weather is getting warmer in a lot of places so you guys are all probably getting busier. I appreciate all you do <3
