This post breaks my heart to pieces. My little baby girl, Rocky, a beautiful Eastern Gray is in need of a home. She has been with me since she was found on a sidewalk near a business, far from any trees, I don’t know she even made it there. She was injured and nursed back to health but she isn’t releasable. I’ve rescued several pinkies over the years and have had great success. The last 2 I rescued I introduced to Rocky in hopes she would interact with them, she didn’t. In fact, she never came out of her nest box whenever they were present. Now, due to a pending divorce, I have decided that she needs to be relocated as I’ve found that she is not being cared for like I cared for her. I’ve spoiled her and I want her to continue being spoiled :)
So, I’ve decided to move out of the house and I just don’t trust her care to my spouse. That, and the fact I do not wish to initiate any form of contact with that spouse, is the main reason I need her re-homed. I don’t me to get too personal but I really need to find someone that would love her the way I have for the past 6+ years. If you can help, please message me and we can have more conversation.
Thank you for taking the time to listen,
Rod

Hi, RST.
I'm sorry to hear of your divorce. If you've been caring for a squirrel for six years, you are undoubtedly a special person.
My wife and I are across the lake from you in WI. We have a lot of experience with flyers (See Tomahawk Flyers and Louie elsewhere on this board) but none with grays, other than feeding the outdoor reds and grays. In fact, a giant batch of squirrel block just came out of the oven. We have just lost our Louie, and are approaching the time when it will be "OK" emotionally and ethically to fill the hole he has left in our lives. Perhaps your little one would enjoy living in our home (not for rehab or release) if you must let her go. The good thing here, if you can find one at this difficult time in your life, is that you'd know where your baby is and would always be welcome to visit - via video conference and/or in person. Always.
Would you like to discuss this? We could speak in the morning if you'd like. I'll PM my phone number if you'd like to have this conversation. If you want to share your number with me, that's fine - but do it via PM and don't post it on the forum. No problem with the terrific people here - it is just protocol.
I need to do a little digging for information on the rehoming of grays after they have been raised by another human. It HAS to remain all about the squirrel - it would be terrible for Rocky to find a new home and have a sad life from then on because she can't get past not being with you all the time. It is dinner time (for the Tomahawk Flyers, and for us.) I'll get to studying after dinner and hope we can work with you to bring as happy a solution to this question as we all can.
Best Regards,
Jamie

So, lots of back story on this. To spare everyone the details, I'll jump right to the present. Road Trip for Rocky this Tuesday. We've had flyers for over three years now, have only ever encountered grays in the wild. CritterMom has been an indispensable and appreciated resource through all of this. In particular, her "squirrel whisperer" advice about getting to know Rocky and letting Rocky get to know us is just out of this world. We look forward to sharing Rocky's new life with our special friends here at TSB.
So there is no confusion, there is a little Johnny Cash and his "Boy Named Sue" mixed in here. Her current human named her "Rocky" and didn't realize she was a girl until quite some time later. So, once and evermore, Rocky is a girl:

Hi TF,
Thank you for jumping in to help re-home this beautiful girl in an unfortunate situation. People like you really do change the world and make it a better place. I wish you the very best for bonding with Ms Rocky. She is so cute and those eyes kill ya!
Welcome to the Grey Squirrel World. I'm sure its very different from Flyers. TSB is here to support you!

Happily, RST was able to arrange his life in such a way that Rocky can stay safely with him. Rocky gets to stay with the man who raised and loves her. There is no better outcome than this. In the meantime, Ollie, the Alabama flyer we received from Linz1985 two days ago, is in the sleeve of the sweatshirt I'm wearing furiously bathing. Great outcomes all around.

Hi TF,
Tears of Happiness here!! You are the Best Man of both situations. I'm really happy RST found a way to keep Rocky. They both certainly need each other with the current situation. Ms Rocky is a cutie! Thank you for all your efforts. Happy New Years 2024.
