Hi, Jonah's mum here. Now that he is back, I am definitely going to be overwintering him. Yesterday, he somehow pulled off the pinkie toenail of his front right paw. He bled pretty severely, so he is presently inside in a very small, well-padded carrier cage. (I cleaned the toe with a non-stinging antiseptic and am doing my best to keep fresh Neosporin on it. Since I have not figured out what caused Jonah's nail injury, I'm not putting him back into that cage. I need to get a larger one for inside use during the winter. Jonah never does more than "play-bite" YET. And while I wouldn't say I like the thought of never letting him exercise outside of his cage all winter long, I am so afraid he'll start attack-biting before winter ends. For years, my family and I lived under the reign of terror of a male unreleasable who, about once a month, shredded one or more of us to ribbons. It started around his six-month birthday and became a long nightmarish scenario. One I never, ever, ever want to relive. Any advice for overwintering while avoiding both over-confinement and deep, rapid-fire, bone-crunching, nerve-damaging puncture wounds? :Squirrel x :Squirrel x :Squirrel

I am so glad you got Jonah back safe for the winter. I have absolutely no advice other than I saw you are putting neosporin on it and I've seen in other posts that it is actually advised NOT to use neosporin, that squirrels don't respond well to one if the antibiotics in it? Hopefully you will get much more useful advice, but I just wanted to say something as Jonah has put you through the ringer, naughty baby!
