We know we have to keep the squirrel over the winter as it was born late and is not suitable for release. It has about 10 weeks now.

We keep it in sun room as we have no other place to provide proper environment. It has a cage, that is open all the time with the nest and whole sun room to go around and play on branches we set up.

The problem is that it is fall and temperature is dropping. So I have two questions:

1. What should be the temperature in the sun room during the cold season? Is there a minimum? As it is not insulated temperature will drop significantly. The only protection is against wind, rain and snow.

2. Is there anything we should do with the nest to prepare it for winter?

And anything else that maybe important.

Thank you.

Is this area an outside screened porch?
Just wondering if you could wrap the outside in heavy duty vinyl of some kind🤔

No, it is encloses sunroom with walls, windows and patio doors, but not insulated so temperature is usually closer to what is outside.

I'm sure someone that lives in your climate could answer you better but they will be protection from snow and will have food supply can huddle in nest boxes. Canadian squirrels have very thick fur so I'm sure they will do very well🤗
So well they may never want to check out of their cozy hotel come spring :rofl4
