Hello! I have raised and released grays and reds but have my first set of orphaned chips in prerelease currently.
Does the prerelease stage need to be as long for them? How long do you typically leave them in there before go day!
Thank you!

Chippies do not require as long of release cage time as greys typically. They should be able to crack nuts, stuff their pouches and exhibit hoarding / storing habits.

They do best being released around woodpiles and the like. I have even buried a bird house attached to a pipe in the side of the hill to give them a head start in the fall. And give them piles of nuts and seeds to hoard for their first winter...

Thank you! They’re doing great and have a burrow constructed in there, and have been fully clearing their bowl each feed to stash the extras. I’ll give another week for good measure and then open the come and go door. I appreciate the insight! I’m releasing next to my porch where the other area chips seem to enjoy sheltering and provide shelled nuts and seeds for everyone right there year round, so I know she’ll be set up if she stays close by 🥰
