I have three baby Eastern Grey Squirrels
! hour West of Toronto, Ontario

Rehabbers within 3 hrs drive are full or unavailable to take squirrels atm. I've called 6. One rehabber was able to tell me I was on the right track but she had just lost her husband so couldn't take them.

1 boy, 2 girls
63g, 66g and 63g each.
Aprox 3 weeks old (peach fuzz, eyes close).
I've had them for about 12 hours, they've been unhomed for most of 30 hours. Nest blew out of tree, mum has dissappeared. Babes were left out for 8 -10 hours under the tree they fell from.
I've been giving them very warm water, pinch of salt and tsp of honey for most of that time orally.
I wanted them to be warm and somewhat hydrated before I fed them.
I have esbilac goat milk puppy formula.

Problem - they are not drinking enough to hydrate them. They have only peed once as far as I can tell. Stimulating them to pee is not working on the boy and 1 girl.
I have Plasma-Lyte A that I give my kidney cat subq. Can I give this to them?
I bought insulin needles to give them subq fluids to get them going.

Really appreciate ANY help at this point.

Thanks
Cats

First, if you can, please return the esbilac goats milk formula and purchase the REGULAR powdered esbilac puppy formula. The goats milk formula seems to go rancid very easily, sometimes before it is ever opened, and can cause sickness, bloat, diarrhea, ets.

Second, your rehydration fluid sounds like it has way too much honey in it. The excess sugar will also cause diarrhea.

3 teaspoons sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, and 4 cups water is a common wildlife rehydration fluid. You can also use pedialyte.

Very, very important to get them completely rehydrated before feeding the (new) formula. Make sure you heat the rehydration fluid to about 105F or so - as though it was formula.

You need a 1ml syringe (preferably eventually with a nipple) to feed these babies. Anything larger will risk aspirating formula. Large syringes give no control.

I am hoping someone else will chime in about the sub-q.

- I can't return it, but I'll get new replacer. It will get here tomorrow.

- Okay, I will use sugar. I went with the Henry's Squirrel rehab info and wildlife centre of florida info. But I can defintely make a new batch starting now. I was using 1 spare tsp honey, a pinch of salt and 1 cup water.

- I went ahead and verified I could give that fluid subq with a vet and then administered it at 1/3 of the rate mentioned. (2-3 ml over the four quadrants of the back shoulder, shoulder, haunch haunch)

-yes, i bought 1 ml syringes that came today by amazon with pet nipple.

-I'm also going to weight the babies to see how much they've maintained or lost since 7:30 yesterday.

Thanks :)
