Hello,

One of my neighborhood western gray squirrels with whom I am buddies with was suffering from some kind of sinus infection (yellow discharge from nose). It has lot of trust in me so one day I could not see it suffering and placed a trap outside my patio where she has built a nest. She was hungry that day and was waiting for me to give her treats. I placed treats inside trap and she pounced on the treat with full trust in me and got trapped. She started crying once inside the trap but I had loaded her into my car's trunk and took it to local wildlife rescue center where vet confirmed that she had some kind of infection. They were going to treat her for a couple of days and release her into the same neighborhood.

My question is will she ever display/show the same kind of trust in me or will she avoid and be afraid of me? Can someone throw some light?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Has she been released back into your neighborhood?

It might take a while, but I'd expect you'll be buds again after a time. Even squirrels that I have released that I might see most every day for years disappear for weeks... even months... some show back up like they were here every day. Others are very cautious for days and even weeks after they show back up before things return to largely what they were before they took some time to explore other territories.

Reason for my post is I was the one who lured her into the trap and she knows that. I am worrying that she will not trust me anymore after she is released into my neighborhood.

She has not been released yet...

I’ve trapped a few for various reasons and all of them returned to normal status given some time. She will be leery for a while and probably want the extra good nut’s though 🌰🐿
