Hi all, I have a mother squirrel which I handraised and released 1 year ago. She lives in our neighbourhood and recently moved back into her old aviary inour garden to have babies. They are now appr. 3-4 weeks old and on checking up on them 2 hours ago I unfortunately found one dead, one in a very good condition and another one in a worrying condition. Shall I seperate the two remaining ones and take the worrying one permanently inside to make sure it survives or shall I just feed it in the aviary and put it back in the den with the other one after the feeding? I have raised a lot of squirrels but never had such a strange situation, any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you, kind regards,
Thomas!

I think I would remove the frail baby entirely. Mamas will push aside babies like that and it sounds as though that may be happening. It would be awful if she took another step to do away with it, especially is some concentrated attention from you will likely save it.
Are these the fabulous little guys with the outrageous tufts on their ears? Or is it one of our Eastern gray squirrels?

Thank you very much for the quick response. Already followed your advice -> squirrel is inside and we will try our best ... 👍.
Yes, the tufty ones ... 😊 ... based in Austria and we only have the red squirrels!
