Hi everyone, its a pleasure to join and meet all of you beautiful squirrel lovers and rehabbers. Someone had brought a weak/almost dying baby squirrel to me awhile back who could not be reunited with its mother, and so luckily I was able to nurse him back to full health and now he is a healthy strong squirrel. However, I feel guilty that he has not yet been able to experience life in the wild, and sadly I do not have the means (I have no backyard or know anyone that is willing to let me utilize their backyard) to do a proper slow release. In addition he is starting to "wild up" and display signs of aggression so it is becoming more difficult for me to care for him during his cage-free roaming time. It also makes me nervous and sad to think of giving him over to any random rehabber site that I find on google because 1.) I don't feel like I will truly know what they decide to do with him especially if he is wilding up now, and 2.) I have honestly grown to love and feel a soft spot for him so I would be devastated if I could never have the chance to visit him again, and was hoping to find someone not far from me that has the heart to allow me to occasionally go back and visit if I ever wanted to and if it was okay with them. So I am hoping that anybody here that is not far from the Los Angeles area in cali that is already a frequent expert in slow releases and has all the means and resources to do so at anytime will be willing to take him and if they would be okay with allowing me to be a part of the process. Thank you so much and keeping my fingers crossed, hope you are all having a beautiful day and thank you for doing what you do. Thank goodness for the lovely creators of this squirrel board and the lovely members that make this support system possible :Love_Icon:grouphug

I don’t have any info for others in CA. I believe one of the admins/senior members who posts on here a lot is from the area, hopefully he will reply with some resources for you.

However there is a thread from yesterday/today by another member who is also in California who was looking for some help in that area. Some folks posted various rehabbers/resources/contact info on that thread. I would call a couple of those people and see if they have any info or other contacts they can suggest to help. Wildlife rehab and especially for squirrels is a relatively small world where people know each other and are happy to help and get you in touch with people who will help. (Based on my personal and recent experience with this though…it’s vitally important to ASK the right questions and know what you are looking for. I got in touch with multiple highly recommended sources, but their responses and processes did not align with my own, of what a proper and healthy soft release is. I’m glad I asked what I did, and vetted them. Cause I was able to eventually find someone who did it the right way, and has since successfully released my babygirl. And continues to send me photos and updates even after release)

Here is a link to the thread I mentioned.

Hi Squirrely-1

You could check with Mary Cummings located in LA; she may do soft releases. :dono

Unfortunately this option wouldn't support you visiting him.
