At what age do you start introducing a baby squirrel to drink water?
Thx in advance.

I start giving my little guys water in a very shallow dish (peanut butter jar lid or something like that) when they start getting regular food. I start giving them regular food when their eyes open. You will probably want to wait until his eyes have been open for 3-4 days so he is seeing clearly and doesn't accidentally fall into the water dish. If you use a deeper dish than a lid, you can put marbles in the bottom to make it so the water is very shallow.

I starrted to hang a bottle as soon as his eye's opened..HE STILL doesnt want to drink from it..every once in a while he'll do a quick sniff..and a little roll lick..I think he holds out waiting for me to get him his milk/formula...
The squirrel books said to hang it..as soon it's eye's open..and to use one w/ a guard on it so, they don't chew it...

:shakehead Uh oh! Oliver is a little over 6 wks and I haven't been giving him water, except for the occasional drink with his eye dropper. I thought I read somewhere that they don't need it until they're 8 wks but wanted to ask anyway to make sure...OH GOD, I feel HORRIBLE!!!
*Danali gives Oliver H2o right away, right now, right this minute*
You are fine. Baby Oliver is getting plenty of water from his formula. Hang a water bottle on the cage and let him explore it and he will start drinking at his own pace as he starts to wean. :)

I just got back from putting the top of a peanut butter jar (just happned to have one) and he took a couple of sips and now he's running up & down the little log I put in there for him, playing. Guess he's happy now...Thank you...I went into a "freaked out mommy episode", lol
