Hi. I have an indoor/outdoor squirrel. She comes home every night to have dinner and go to bed and leaves after her breakfast in the am. She came home today with a deep cut on her neck. After cleaning it, it looks like it needs a stitch or two. It’s pretty deep and about an inch long. I cleaned it with water and betadine solution. I also put some polysporin on it. What advice can anyone give me. I just want the laceration to close and heal properly without infection.
Thank you in advance,
Roxie

I’m sorry no one has yet replied to your post/question. It’s “baby season” so rehabbers are busy, and overwhelmed. They DO CARE, I promise. The fact you cleaned it with diluted beta dune is GREAT! My next questions would be 1.) can you post a picture? 2.) IF (and she probably WILL need to be confined and restricted for a while until it heals) she needs to stay inside for a period of time, is this possible with your current indoor/outdoor setup? Can she be caught and given a safe and secure place to heal and recover? 3.) do you have access to a vet who could help/provide stitches and antibiotics?
Poor baby. Hope she is okay. And my post will BUMP this post.

Hello, What you are doing sounds great. I would continue what you are doing and keep a eye on it. I have had a few wilds that had a few pretty bad ones which I could not treat just food and water and they are fine. They are awesome healers. You could take a few pictures and post. That would give others a better look as well.

Since she lets you touch her and work on her injury hopefully you can keep her indoors to keep an eye on it till it heals 🙏
It may have been a male trying to mate they can get very aggressive and they do grab the neck 😕
Please keep us posted👍
