Have others used meloxicam in tiny babies?

This one just came; tornado baby blown from the nest . He seems to have significant bruising and swelling in his lower abdomen. It also seems painful to the touch when I gently try to help him eliminate.

He’s only 74 g,

I’ve hydrated with sub q fluids .

I’ve just never used it in such a little one.

See bruising , swelling:

Yes!
Can you feel his bladder or did it rupture?

Thank you Doc:Love_Icon

I’m not sure…. He tenses up, it hurts,
But dosed the metacam and will see if pee comes next hydration attempt ,

Hi Snicker Bar. I'm glad you and your family are OK!
Is your little Squirrel pooping and peeing (I think those are correct medical terms!)? If so, no evidence blood in either I hope! Do you have ultrasonography available? It would be great for evaluating for the presence of abnormal intraabdominal or retroperitoneal fluid. It sounds as if this baby may have sustained an abdominal contusion!
I too would like to know if there is evidence supporting the safe and beneficial use of Meloxicam in baby Squirrels.

I can reach out to an office that may be willing to help,

He had dark feces caked to legs and rectum. But nothing came on first attempt to stimulate. But figure he’s gone hours without any fluid. Will see what comes at around midnight.

Thank you Mm; the vocalizing has slowed down. Hopefully a good sign; not the opposite,

A little improvement in swelling , maybe? But still no visible drops of pee on stimulation. He took fluids better; just swallows one drop or two at a time but at least his mouth moves now and I see him swallowing better.

I placed some paper towels over the fleece and will see what happens in 4 hrs. Maybe all that swelling has his system slow to move , idk. Hope things are better in the am.

Thank you for suggestions and advice. He was still here at 4:00, but gone at daylight. I so hate it . But at least he wasn’t lying in the debri to be taken alive by scavengers or fire ants. :(

As I mentioned to MM, I could not really feel of his tummy without him tensing up. And after I dosed with literally a micro drop of meloxicam, he started to ease it seemed.

But just now, before I wrapped him I tried to gently express his bladder like I do my para Victoria twice daily ; and it won’t. His skin, as could see in the picture , was kind of distended and “bulged” just above his boy part. This morning, the skin almost looked ‘shiny’ there…

When I gently pressed there , after no sign of urine, it felt like something pushed back in. Like fluid maybe? Idk. That’s as far as I went and just gently wrapped him . But I wonder?? If it could have been a rupture? There was so much bruising. But no puncture wounds.

Who knows…. What in the world happens in the wind in these storms. People on the scene yesterday described seeing cars in trees, yet pictures still hanging on a wall of a detonated house. A woman was flung and found a 1/4 mile away from her home and spouse , and yet survived. But many others didn’t. The worker said it was so eerie; no dogs or cats anywhere, but little dead wilds on the roads , in the piles of debri. I did see the pic of a dog , totally unharmed, still chained to his thing on a bare foundation. I hate chains. But I guess it saved this dog ; how did it survive decapitation? Idk.

Maybe others that can be saved will come . RIP little one; I didn’t give a name, wanted to be sure first.
