I have a squirrel who usually is very happy to come out of her cage for run around time but here recently all she wants to do is go in her cage and run around in circles and come out run around the room and back to the cage and repeat the process. Is this just boredom or is it a part of her having fun?

She's really nice and everything so I'm just wondering what this behavior is all about thank you

It would be helpful to know how old she is, and how long you have had her, and what kind of diet she is on. That would give us a more clear picture in order to understand your question better.

From mid to late fall my friend's girl squirrel did the same run around thing. In the wild tree squirrels were found to consume up to 32 percent greater calories in the fall months than in the winter through early summer, which reached its crescendo in Oct. and fell off sharply the first week in December every year like clockwork.

Offering nuts with a rodent block diet is pretty much limited to a tiny amount. Including a supplemental source of calcium like Manu mineral block can help to offset higher foods with a somewhat higher phosphorus level. Offer 1 Tsp. of organic boiled (cooled) peas; place each pea in a different location within a her enclosure, or special room where she gets exercise (not the main living spaces) for her to find. This supports the natural activity of foraging by tree squirrels that reaches its height in the fall of the year. Another food squirrels often have been found to favor when raised in captivity, is organic boiled peas (cooled to feed) Adding a few drops of organic Chia oil by "Foods Alive" (food grade not a carrier oil), is mashed baked organic Butternut Squash can increase interest in the squash, as can fine grinding a tiny measure 1/4 Tsp. of walnut or pecan to mix into the squash.

Thanks everyone for the advice I meant running not rubbing lol sorry for the confusion. I had another question regarding her feet. I noticed today she had a (water blister I'm guessing )on her hind foot. I opened it up with finger nail ciphers and watery liquid came out. I clip away the loose skin which she didn't care about at all. I do this to myself all the time when I have a water blister. Either way I'm just trying to figure out what could be the reason for the watery fluid under her skin on her foot. I wish I had taken a photo but unfortunately I didn't. She's on a oxbow rat feed not rodent blocks because she won't eat them. It is only pebbles cause she liked to eat the treats and leave the food. And she gets nuts occasionally. She's doing great just some morning she looks like her hair is all woke up ish for a lack of better words but later on she cleans up hydrates her self and is up running and playing like a sweet girl she is. Any advice would be much appreciated thank you.
