Not sure if I am posting in the right place. My little Jax was diagnosed with odontoma back in October of 2020. We have not had to have surgery yet to remove them because he was doing so well and they were slow growing. But he is now having a lot of trouble with his bottom incisors and is not eating very well. He is very uncomfortable and they look bad. His gums are very inflamed. My issue is that Dr. Emerson is out of town and can not see him until next week. I'm worried that he may be infected and do not know what to do.

It appears surgery is inevitable, getting the inflammation down beforehand would be desirable.
Until you can get in to see Dr. E you need to locate some Clavamox (Ab) and get him on it.
We can instruct you on breakdown and dosing.
If you were to speak with Dr. E it would be her recommendation.

Ugh- My vet is out until next week as well. What timing, right? If you have Metacam, that will help with pain and inflammation, though someone else will have to help you with dosing. I know infant/children’s Motrin is sometimes used for pain and as an anti-inflammatory as well, though not for long term use (3-4 days max). As for antibiotics, I wouldn’t want to recommend anything without knowing more but maybe a senior member can chime in with better advice. Could you possibly post a picture?
As for feeding, if you have Henry’s Healthy Vita-Mins, there’s a recipe for adult squirrel formula on the package (probably the website too) that you can feed him with a syringe. It’ll keep him from becoming mal-nourished while you’re waiting to hear back from the vet and it will limit the amount of effort he has to put into chewing. I have a little neuro with teeth problems as well so we’ve been on adult formula for a while and she loves it. I add probiotics and milk thistle to mine because she’s constantly on antibiotics.
Best of luck! I hope things get better for the little guy :hug

Well my sweet little Jaxie saw Dr Emerson on Thursday. What we thought was a tooth abscess or infection turned out to be a tumor. She did surgery and removed about 80% of it. He is on antibiotics and pain medicine right now. He is eating a little better and doesn't seem to be in too much pain. Please say a prayer for our baby while we wait on the pathology report. Praying that this is not cancer!
