Hello, I took in a baby grey squirrel who was abandoned by his mom. The neighbors 4 cats stalk my yard constantly and nearly killed him the first week of September I would say at the time he was 6-7 weeks old max. I tried to get his mom to come back but since the cats just sit under the tree he fell from she never came back and I see a dead squirrel every other week on the curve by my driveway.

He is becoming more aggressive towards other family members and I can not keep him I built him a large nesting box and he did not want to stay in the tree I put it in about 20 feet up. he came back down and crawled under my jacket. He will not survive in the winter since he has no social or survival skills and there are plenty of hawks, cats, and cars in my neighborhood. The local rehabber did not have room for him when we got him and I am about to go on vacation traveling from Nashville down I75 towards Florida, If someone local who can care for him please reach out or I could meet you off of an exit of I75 Thursday in late evening. I do not want a rehabber to euthanize him.I planned to over winter him just to save him but to be honest I feel it would be best to take him to a forever home or someone who can soft release him after winter. I fear letting him go now would only mean death at this season. I am obviously attached to him but I don't think I can make the long term commitment. I do not think he is a NR but not right now. He has no visible injuries or disabilities from the attack. I can not drive a far distance but I can meet you around Nashville 30 minutes area. PLEASE PM ME IF YOU CAN HELP

Thank you

I don’t think it’s a good idea to bring him too far south for release. Northern grey squirrels are quite a bit larger and have a denser coat than their southern counterparts. I will see if I can find someone In Tennessee that could help.

I agree he needs a soft release and some preparation prior to being released.

Reach out to this wildlife facility in Georgia. He is a member here and your squirrel will be in excellent hands. He is located north of Atlanta. I’m not sure how far from I75 but sometimes you do what you have to do. I hope you can get your baby to him. Here’s his website link https://cummingnuthouse.com/

Please let us know how things go.

Ok thank you he looks great but I think its out of the way. I spoke with a rehabber closer to my house I plan to take him there this weekend, I think he will have the best shot there to be wild.

Thank you again
