Can anyone give me any information on a vet that will treat baby squirrels? Our rehabbers are all at max capacity and have full voicemail boxes. I have contacted every wildlife center in my state and over 25 vets but none will see a squirrel. (My state’s homepage says to leave injured squirrels where they are and that they are good food sources for other animals.) I am in the lower south east and willing to travel to Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, or Tennessee. I found a baby squirrel with an abscess on her shoulder (that recently popped but filled back up only to pop again) and an infected toe, right by the toenail. I am desperate to help this baby because no one here will.

I can send you some ABs tomorrow. Can someone let me know what the best one(s) would be for this application? I can overnight some tomorrow.

IMHO, Baytril is best... 2nd best clavamox, 3rd best SMZ -TMP

I would change the order for an abscess - Clavamox (A.K.A. Augmentin, amoxicillin/clavulanate) #1 and SMZ-TMP (A.K.A. Bactrim, Septra) #2.

It is a severely angry looking bump on her toe that is so swollen it looks like it’ll burst, but never does. It’s full of bright red blood. Pictures don’t do it justice. I just took new photos and there’s now a tiny white dot inside it. It looks shiny in these photos because we’ve been putting Terramycin on it after every feeding. The abscess on her shoulder burst and is now scabbed over so hopefully that’ll heal but I’m extremely worried about her toe.

How old would you say she is? That scab / crusty bit on the outside of the toe has to be gently soaked off with some warm distilled water or at least water that has been boiled then let to cool to between ~95 and 104 °

The scab coming off will help the infection drain.

I don’t see a scab on her toe but I soak it every other day because it seems to relax her. She is 7 weeks old.

@Papabear90
I don’t know how to send a photo through private message so here are two photos of her.
