I have a 6 week old red squirrel that has had diarrhea for 2 days due to increasing formula to weight. Gave probiotics and hydration. What is safe to use on his bottom for irritation? Is there more I can do to stop the watery diarrhea. Started as soft and now is watery. Thanks

I’m sorry this was supposed to go into non life threatening.

Make sure you clean her bottom really well each time she has diarrhea - it will just tear up those delicate tissues as you can see. Just use plain water, dry her well, and use some regular old vaseline on the area.
Need to stop that diarrhea. Give us her weight and get yourself some Pepto Bismol. Sometimes the easiest thing works... Once we have the weight we can tell you how much - it will just be a drop or two. Pepto will make the poop turn dark temporarily - don't worry about that.

Okay so I have given FV 20/50 with dia stat alternating since 2 pm today, every 5 hours. I gave two doses of pepto since last night, one last night at 9 and one today at 8 but I didn’t have a proper syringe for that size and think I may have underdosed. I definitely got the proper dose tonight at 6:30 after getting a smaller syringe. He is taking less fluid in between feedings now since it is plain water instead of sugar water but I’m offering. Is there any more I can do for this lil guy??

He seems to be squatting often now too. Not sure if he’s trying to urinate or bm because of the diarrhea. Not much comes out. Could he have a UTI? Are there other symptoms to watch for? I did notice less urinary output and now he’s squatting a lot but that’s all.

Hows your squirrel doing? Still squatting a lot? Most times with a UTI, or any type of infection, they stop eating and become lethargic.
