I have a 5.5 week gray squirrel. I've had for 5 weeks. Yesterday morning I switched to a new syringe. His first drink it slid faster than the old one and he aspirated. I cleaned him up and he ate great all yesterday and this morning. But I did notice beginning signs of diarrhea this am. His second feeding I switched to pedialyte. I also started to notice a clicking when breathing. Now His 3rd feeding he's not as rambunctious. Didn't want as much, still has diarrhea and there is a definite clicking with every breath and more pronounced breathing. I do have clavamox. But I didn't think u were suppose to administer clavamox when diarrhea is present. But is the diarrhea an onset from the possible pneumonia? Please help. If I am going to give clavamox how much how often? He is NORMAL 5.5 WEEK squirrel size. I'm currently out of town with him and did not bring my scale. Every breath even when sleeping is clicking. And he is breathing significantly different.

In order to assist with dosing we need 1) the strength of the Clavamox you have and 2) the weight of the squirrel. There is no "normal 5.5 week old squirrel" when it comes to weight... they could be 75grams or 225grams and that is a huge difference in dosing antibiotics. If it is impossible to weigh him (or get a $20 kitchen scale at Walmart), please post a picture of him maybe next to a soda can or some other object for reference... this will allow a better guess at his weight (but still a guess and not ideal).

Diarrhea is not associated with Aspiration Pneumonia (AP), though antibiotics can sometimes upset tummies and cause diarrhea. This is a result of the antibiotics killing off the "good flora" in their stomachs. That is why giving probiotics an hour after the antibiotics, to restore good flora.

What color is the diarrhea (e.g. whitish, greenish, yellowish, ???)? Is it possible he is under a lot of stress with you being out of town and his routine disrupted?

No added stress he goes with me all the time. The only difference was the aspiration. 322904 I am in a cabin in the mountains is a 5 hr drive to nearest town with Walmart

Has the water been previously added to the clavamox powder? If yes, how many days ago?

Working up dosing now...

Ok, follow the directions for reconstituting and I will PM dosing using the concentration of 62.5mg per 1ml....
