View Full Version : Baby with pneumonia and abscess

What antibiotics would you advise for treating a real bad case of pneumonia? The lady has been using Clavamox for nearly a week and the poor baby still wheezes. The lil girl also has an abscess on a front paw.

I was thinking we will probably need to stack ABs but the q is which ones…

Antibiotics are not overly effective against abscesses... but I would definitely recommend Cipro / Baytril for the AP and if the Augmentin is not helping, I'd stack Bactrim (SMZ/TMP).

I gather you mean Cipro and Baytril together instead of Augmentin (Clavamox)? If so, Cipro is how many times a day, please, once or twice? The Augmentin appears not to be working. So now what precisely... ?

No, no. Cipro OR Baytril - they are nearly the same drug so whichever one you can get, and stacked with SMZ-TMP since the augmentin doesn't seem to be working. So you would be giving wither Cipro and SMZ or Baytril and SMZ.

Cipro can be given either once daily, or that dose divided in two and given twice daily. Not knowing how it was dosed, we can't answer that.

With the squirrel's weight and the milligram size of the cipro, we can certainly recalculate it though.
