Found a baby, with a lot of ant bites on the 25th of this month. Has been pooping but halfway through today has stopped. Some clicking noises can be heard when he breathes OUT and only when he moves around a lot or I'm touching him.
I'm worried!! I've been giving him some pedialyte instead of formula for the last couple of hours.
Should I take him to the emergency vet??
I have a good video of the sound he is making but I can't post it here. I posted it on the squirrels subreddit though.
Please help!!!

if you hold the baby to your ear do you hear CLICK CLICK or is it intermittent?
All I know is if its not constant it may not be aspiration, if it is then antibiotics are needed I believe Baytril.....
HOWEVER wait for the ones here to guide you.
Also IMHO I'd stick to formula, pedailyte is only for hydration and only given for a short term as I understand.

Hello,
When he moves while I touch him it's like CLICK CLICK CLICK, but when he is sleeping or just laying there, there is no sound.
I'm mostly scared that if he isn't pooping maybe he isn't hydrated. I haven't given him any formula since 730 so it's been 3 hours, but I'm scared ro not feed him!
I'm monitoring him, he is sleeping and is warm in his little box with a blanket and heating pad. Stimulation isn't working and he isn't pooping when I do so.
I just checked on him, he is still supee energized and wiggling around when I checked up on him.
Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I really want to try my best helping this little baby.
Thanks for responding!

Most babies will click at times, especially after eating when their mouths are the wettest. This is a "mouth click". An Aspiration Pneumonia (A)) click comes from the lungs with each breath and they will click all the time even while sleeping.. that he is not clicking while sleeping, still energetic and hungry are good signs.

Typically on intake the first few poops will be very dark, almost black. That is mommy's milk. When they start pooping formula we feed them, the color will be yellow / golden.

Having antibiotics on hand (Baytril/Cipro or Augmentin/Clavamox are best) is always a good idea when raising pinky squirrels.

What formula are you feeding?
