My baby started clicking tonight and gasping for air at times. She was doing so well since we found her 3 days ago. I only have capsules of Amoxicillin I believe 500 mg and liquid amoxicillin. I want to get this baby started immediately to save her life if anyone can get me dosage info. She weighs about 13 to 16 grams , very tiny with umbilical cord still attached!

Medications need to be diluted for a squirrel's use, we need to know exact milligrams in order to properly/safely dilute and dose.
Any lettering on the capsule?
What is the mgs of the liquid?

How old is the Amoxicillin liquid? It is good only for about 2 weeks (if stored in fridge) max after dilution (water added to powder, usually by pharmacist)?
I sent dosing via a PM, please see the note I added at the end.
Amoxicillin i snot great for AP so keep trying to find Cipro/Baytril or Augmentin/Clavamox

The liquid has been kept in fridge. Where do I get these other meds? Vets won't help us here with squirrels unfortunately.

They are antibiotics for humans. Sometimes people don't finish their prescriptions. So ask friends, family, etc., if anyone has ANY antibiotics left over and find out the name and size in milligrams and we can tell you if you have found something that ma work better than the amoxicillin.

I want to thank you SO much! My baby Miracle is doing much better. The clicking is almost gone actually not constant like last night and this morning. She has started back eating for last 4 feedings about .04 ml, better than nothing like Last night and this morning! Her skin is back pink and tight. She went down super fast yesterday and she looked wrinkly last night. It was hard to get her to hydrate but thank the Lord she finally did later in the morning after antibiotics got in her. I'm going to get her probiotics in a little while. She had a little diarrhea earlier but not now. I do notice her urine is very yellow this evening. Could that be from the amoxicillin? It did that to me actually when I took it. I'm so thankful I found you guys! I'm dedicated to my little angel and will do what I can to save her precious little life 💓

I am so glad to hear she is doing better.
Do you mean 0.4ml or literally 0.04ml? At 15grams (give or take) she needs to be eating about 0.75ml - 1ml every feeding (about every 2 hours around the clock at this age).
What formula are you feeding her?
I am attaching a cheat sheet for feeding amounts and frequency.

Hi,
That was just all I could get her to take early this morning. She using eats between 0.75 ml to 1ml every 2 hours. I'm using GMF. What's your recommendation after the time frame has passed to change formula. I was told there was one formula recalled because it was sitting in the babies stomachs and not digesting. She's really done great all day. I'm thrilled at her turn around! Thanks for the info also!

Good to hear she is eating more and doing better. :bliss
There has been more than one formula recalled for various issues over the years and the results are disastrous and heartbreaking. Generally speaking however, the Fox Valley (FV) 32/40 is the one to be avoided at this time... and there are a lot of various opinions about formula. So here is my recommendation for you and your baby....
At a week to 10 days you can transition her to Esbilac; the powdered version as the liquid one is not at all the same. And only the Esbilac (not all puppy formulas are the same).
At around 3 weeks I would transition to a combination of half Esbilac and half Fox Valley 20/50. Fox Valley has to be purchased on-line. This "half-n-half" combo is the formula I used for years from about 3 weeks to weaning. I like to think the combo provides a "hedge" against the formula disasters and by grace or luck I have managed to avoid these tragedies.
Full disclosure: these days I personally use half Zoologic 32/40 and half FV 20/50, but the Zoologic comes in larger bags / buckets that are not practical for the occasional rehabber only dealing with one or even a handful of squirrels.

Great info thanks. How should I transition? I'm guessing I wouldnt change all at once? How should I do it from the GMF?
My husband has rehabbed baby rabbits before but our baby miracle squirrel is whole new territory. We've had her 6 days already so I'll hurry to get my order in for the other formula today. Hopefully shipping times will be quick .
She's still doing great today and back feeding normal. ❤️❤️😇😇🙏

How should I transition? I'm guessing I wouldn't change all at once? How should I do it from the GMF?
There are a lot of different protocols used for transitioning, but here is what I suggest (3/3/3):
Day 1: 2/3 GMF and 1/3 Esbilac
Day 2: 1/3 GMF and 2/3 Esbilac
Day 3: Esbilac.

Great info thanks. Now my issue is I'm finding all different kinds of powered esbilac some with goats milk ECT. Are you able to attach a pic of the exact one I need. I want to make sure if it's not available local that I have it shipped out overnight. We're on day 6 so transition is coming soon. She reverted back yesterday evening to not wanting to eat much. Milk line was there a couple hours, I gave Pedialyte and it went away after about an hour. Im really thinking now the day we found her she was literally born the same day. Her umbilical cord is still attached even now. I've been attempting the probiotic you told me to do because of the amoxicillin. A pinch in water, I don't know if I'm doing it right. I put about .02 ml of water to a pinch... Her poo was mushy yesterday but back like little sesame seeds now. Gosh thanks for caring and helping me!:Love_Icon

Look for the white puppy. You don't want the goats milk esbilac because there have been issues with it being rancid - I believe that the dry goats milk doesn't have the stability. The manufacturer makes a cheaper variety called Pet Lac. Don't use that - just the ESBILAC dry puppy formula. Keep the can in the freezer - in fact you want to do this with all of the dry formulas, Fox Valley included. It mixes just as well from the freezer as if it had been sitting at room temp but you won't have problems with the powder going rancid, which it will.
